I got dropped. 😄 Held on to the front group for 3.5 out of 6 laps then they slowly disappeared. I wasn't hurting or anything - my legs just ran out of juice. Found someone my shape to trade pulls with until the finish. We sprinted for 28th place 😅 Happy to have completed the race. A dozen guys quit or were pulled from the race.

A lot of watts. I held 240W over 2 hours which is my personal best. It's also a lot more power than most of my competitors - the winner only had to push 180W 😮. I wonder how much of it is due to equipment (I ride an older alloy bike whereas most guys own newer carbon shiz).

I think it's mostly a power to weight ratio thing though. The other chunky guy and I experienced a wild rubber band effect - we would coast to the front of the pack on downhill sections then immediately get spat out the back on the uphill bits.

The commissaire's car overtook me on lap 3 while I had left a bit of a gap to the front group. They probably assumed I was dropped then, but I re-overtook the car and caught up to the group, which was my most satisfying moment of the race. 💪 Fuck you commissaires. 🖕🤪

28th from 39 entrants and about a dozen pulled, so that means we were last?

Too soon, roguey. Geez.

That sounds intense, Matt. But cool that you have a goal to look forward to.

Where’s the vids at??

I finished ahead of two guys. 🥳

Everyone says that on your first race, you're going to 1) get dropped ✅ 2) finish DFL (dead fucking last ❌)

I did expect to do better based on my training. But yeah, as soon as I started getting swarmed by riders on lap 1, I realized that I had no clue how to race. On those gamified virtual racing apps, you just plow through the pack without a care in the world because there are no crashes.

Lots to learn.

Funny thing is, if I'd raced in Elite (open class) instead of Master (old balls), I would've finished ahead of a lot more guys. Elite is where the young newbs are. Most Master guys are either regular or returning racers.

Anyhoo, I really enjoyed it. Doing it again in July, hopefully ~15lbs lighter. No more McCrispys or Chinese food for lunch.

I was supposed to get permission to use the GoPro, which I did not, so I had to remove it. Hopefully someone else got footage but I don't remember seeing a single camera in the pack.

I try again in July.

I fokkin know! I shoulda done the arms. No Chewbacca arms for the next race. :dontthinkso:

2 hours 1 minute

8 mins 30 secs behind the winner

Speeds were a lot slower than I expected. The winner averaged just over 23mph.
