Third time through is a meaningfull jump in BAA, no? Stats don't care if a guy is "going good" or if it's a "clutch" spot.
I agree it's dumb and reduction of the game to a model or a flow chart of mathematically driven decisions is hurting the watchability. But the managers who go by thier gut over the stats ARE wrong... I dunno what to do about that.

Why not send Ian Anderson out there for the 6th inning and at the first sign of trouble (a walk or a hit) then go get him?
Agree 100% on 3rd time through the lineup, however.
When you go to the bullpen in the 6th inning, you only need ONE out of four relievers to have a bad day.
I think the shift needs to be limited:
SS can’t play on the other side of 2B. Sane goes for 2B playing on SS side of bag.
