fivey im gonna have to ask you to talk sports from time to time. thank you.

I agree, I was naive, but before I took the job I flew out to San An and sat down with Bill and talked about the job. Everything he was telling me sounded really promising, how much they loved my work, how they wanted to build the video/blog stuff around me, how they wanted to make a long term commitment. He said we would find my niche and give me a chance to flourish. I was too trusting, but it never occurred to me that I would be let go a mere seven months later.

That "dopey" website was a clear moneymaker. More importantly, put yourself in my shoes... living at home with your parents, no direction in life, making minimum wage part time at a radio station, given the opportunity to make 45K (whick in San Antonio is like 60K in Los Angeles) doing something you love (writing/talking sports). It seemed like a great opportunity, and also a potential springboard into a sports media career.

You can judge me for it not being "totally unforeseeable", but in life, nothing is totally foreseeable. You have to take the plunge sometime, and with all the things I was promised, I assumed at the very least I'd have 1-2 years to get my feet wet.

I had my reservations about it, trust me, but I was in no position to turn the offer down.

Yes I getcha. I was probably projecting my own negative feelings about my side-gig as an SBR employee into my comments.

I still get a bit riled when I think about some of the stuff.

Dave question. You say you wanted to springboard that into a sports media career.

Don't you think that a legitimate sports media outlet would find someone who worked for a gambling website to be a questionable hire?

Now I'm not saying there is any thing wrong with writing about sports gambling, but the topic does still seem a bit taboo and I would expect there to be some questions with someone having a gambling background and being a legitimate sports media person with access. Know what I'm sayin?

Experience is experience. If they liked my writing/video style, they might like me.

It really isn't that taboo. Berman does his "Swami Picks" which are always against the spread, Cowherd is a known gambler that talks about his "top picks" all the time, ESPN's columnists all pick every NFL game against the spread on the site every week (like my NFL newsletter)... I didn't (and don't) think that working for a gambling site would prevent me from getting a radio gig or writing for another website.

Good answer, I'd never thought of it like that.

There are plenty of radio guys that have gambling shows and stuff these days

I'm with Dave, I think that there's a HUGE difference between gambling on sports and making book. Making book is hugely illegal and could negatively impact one's reputation for life, but in the last 20 years gambling has become so pervasive in our culture that it's very much like exceeding the speed limit. Sure it's illegal, but everyone's crime is in fact, no one's crimes. Indian casinos, state lotteries, poker rooms, video machines & keno at bars/restaurants, ESPN's Streak For The Cash, the list goes on and on. Offshore gambling on sports is something that almost everybody is aware of and only a handful of religious retards seek to vilify. Nobody is going to look at Dave's gambling and question his candidacy for a job solely on that basis, although I'm sure it'll typecast him somewhat into that niche.

I know there is Pavy and I guess you that nearly every post is directed at JJ. JJ Gold is not a paid poster like King Revolver or Mofo. He does not take orders.- RBS Child Molester John

LOL What a moron. Take orders? I've never taken orders from anyone at EOG. Ever. I just fukkin' post. That's it.

I'm starting to think Johnny caught his little brown fuckin' machine wife suckin' a black cock. This is why he's lashing out and acting foolish. Old turd.

Bread reads Bill Simmons articles at ESPN and he quite often references the fact that he bets on games. Although he doesn't come right out and implicate himself by using the words "I gamble on sports", he makes it clear that he does.

Simmons might be the worst gambler ever.
