In related news, I hit 72km/h/45mph with a slightly favorable wind today :blittster: I bet I can do 80 with a strong tailwind

I should look into a heart rate monitor. I’ve always been reluctant to wear a strap around my chest during a 90 min bike ride, though. I’m assuming heart rate monitors work on the wrist are not as accurate.

Yeah, chest straps FTW. I got the Wahoo Tickr X.

So my new heart rate monitor allows me to check which heart rate "zone" I'm in during a workout. Unbeknownst to me, I had been pushing too hard on the bike - the sweet spot for fat burning is about 65 to 75% of your mac heart rate. So the idea now is to spend the vast majority of my bike rides around that mark, which for me is 116 to 134 BPM:

Why is pushing too hard not ideal for burning fat?

I just wanna lower my body fat % at this point

“Fat Burn Zone” Example

30 minutes @60% intensity= 200 calories burned

Ratio: 60% fat/40% carbohydrate

60% = 120 calories from FAT

40% = 80 calories from CARBOHYDRATE

High Intensity Example

30 minutes @80% intensity = 500 calories burned

Ratio: 30% fat/70% carbohydrate

30% = 150 calories from FAT

70% = 350 calories from CARBOHYDRATE

Compelling example Arch.

At my current weight, I'm burning around 380 calories per half hour @ 70% intensity. I did 100 mins today which burned 1280 calories according to my heart rate data.

The thing with higher intensity workouts is that recovery takes a lot longer, whereas ~70% is sustainable on a daily basis.

Strava has a cool Fitness & Freshness feature that tracks your training load and fatigue level. It's really neat. (You gotta load the desktop version of Strava to get the Fatigue chart.)

i think at the end of august kato will know exactly what kato will be

Don't if the big boys have been watching but I have causally watching some every day. Some amazing (maybe drones?) pics from above showing the landscape of winding around mountains. This guy is defending champ and has had 5+ minute lead for awhile and sounds like it's his to lose.

Pogacar wins his third stage of the 2021 Tour. He won three stages last year and in fact won three stages at his Grand Tour debut at the 2020 Vuelta. He has done three Grand Tours and won nine stages. And this one's not over - he won the first time trial and could make it four wins on Saturday. Oh, and the win means he wins the mountains classification and the polka-dot jersey as well. Oh, and he's going to win his second Tour de France on Sunday, barring absolute disaster.

General classification after stage 18
1 Tadej Pogacar (Slo) UAE Team Emirates 75:00:02
2 Jonas Vingegaard (Den) Jumbo-Visma 00:05:45
3 Richard Carapaz (Ecu) Ineos Grenadiers 00:05:51
4 Ben O'Connor (Aus) AG2R Citroën Team 00:08:18
5 Wilco Kelderman (Ned) Bora-Hansgrohe 00:08:50
6 Enric Mas Nicolau (Spa) Movistar Team 0011:00
7 Alexey Lutsenko (Kaz) Astana-Premier Tech 00:11:22
8 Guillaume Martin (Fra) Cofidis 00:12:46
9 Pello Bilbao Lopez De Armentia (Spa) Bahrain Victorious 00:13:48
10 David Gaudu (Fra) Groupama-FDJ 00:18:42

I've been following Pogacar's ride logs/data on Strava. His pace is fucking stupid.

My boy Mark Cavendish seems to have a shot at the green jersey 💪#datsprintlife

Bob Roll says “Tadej Pogacar” about 90,000 times each broadcast instead of occasionally shortening it to “Pogacar”.

I can listen to Phil Liggett all day.

Ate fokking garbage on Friday night boys. 3250 calories worth, and I didn't even ride my bicycle. I did do 200kms of 🏍 which apparently burns 300 calories an hour. I weighed in at 194 the next morning which was a pleasant surprise.

Went for a moderate-intensity 50km pedal bike ride earlier today, that burned 1,800 calories. 💪 Also got my first Strava KOM ever on a short sprint in town. 🥳 Just 140 participants total, but a KOM is a KOM:

Weighed in at 191.8 after my sweaty ride, but I immediately rehydrated and ate and am currently 194. Might be 192 and change tomorrow morning. Common.

I just drilled a 3rd new hole in my belt. Down 5 holes since February.
