I don't like debt. Borrow as much as possible, yeah that's not me. I put a big down payment on the Benz and paid double payments too in order to pay it off faster.

US mortgage are different than the ones in Canada,American’s can write off the interest ,we can’t unless it’s a rental or commercial.I have heard the debate where it is wise to not pay off a home in the States and invest the funds but I am old school and nothing better than not owning a nickel on anything

There are worse things than prepaying a mortgage. But in the US 99/100 it's one of the best tax deductions out there. Market rate minus .25-.35/dollar is usually market minus .75-1.25%.

If someone tells me I can borrow today at approx 5.25% I'm not worried about how I'm going to pay it back. I'm worried about how I can figure out a way to borrow the max.

Ding ding dingo!

About 30ft out (60ft total run to street). Replacing the pipe is the way to go, estimated at $8500. I'm tempted to try to cut through the roots and then use chemicals to hold them off but then the problem (a busted pipe with roots growing) still exists.
