Muddy when you sit through a solid 9 for the first time, and the credits begin to roll, knowing how huge a movie buff you are, do you just sit there on your couch and bask for a few moments? Just look up at the ceiling with a big smile and say "wow, that was nice. I liked that." ??

i sit till the credits end if it was a real good movie i instantly liked
 
Not everyone's ratings are going to be the same, some might rate more 8's and 9's and far less 10's exactly like Muddy said, just because it's a 10 scale that makes no difference.

Explain why 10% of the reviewed films have to be rated a 10.

Percentiles have nothing to do with someone's personal scale of rating a movie.

Go through some reviews on IMDB or check out Roger Ebert. My guess is you won't find some grand perfect scaling system where 1 of every ten movies is rated a 10.

How do you scale the rating of a movie if not by comparison?

Curious.

I never said that there was a perfect scaling system that is in place. I simply asked MUDCAT what constitutes a 10 rating in HIS SCALE. Thanks for answering for him though. Much appreciated.

That is a very accurate representation of it, yes. I experienced this just recently with The King's Speech.

It is a thoroughly pleasurable and rare thing for me and I do bask in it.
