Anybody that understands a little bit about credit default swaps and such will get a lot out of this movie.

I don't doubt that's true but if I had seen that comment beforehand, it might have swayed me away from the movie. I didn't know anything about credit default swaps. To be honest, I still couldn't explain much about them.

But it's not necessary to get the message. I think the only requirement to appreciate the movie is just basically not being retarded. They lay out pretty clearly the massive fraud that was perpetrated, from the two-faced toxic institutions to the paid-for, conflicted-of-interest rating bodies to the incestuous government relationships.

There are few fields I am weaker in than economics, but I could follow the thread no problem.

Yeah, Muddy you're correct (of course :dunno:)

As soon as I saw what I posted I wanted to amend it. What I MEANT was even if you already know a little about cds's you will still get a lot out of this. And you don't need to know anything about them or any of the other derivative/theoretical bullshit paper these crooks sell to get a lot out of this movie.

Today I saw

Rabbit Hole - Sad tale of a couple dealing with the death of their 4 year old child some time prior. It is a solid story that explores a lot of subtle details which are no doubt true for people in those situations. There is some insight there. I am slightly reserved in my rating and I can't put my finger on exactly why, but the simple fact is that when I put it to the would-I-want-to-watch-it-again? test, the answer is ehhh, maybe at some distant future time, whatever. Nicole Kidman got a Best Actress Oscar nomination which I find very dubious. Someone in the academy has got a major Nicole Kidman thing going on. A few years back they bizarrely gave her a Best Actress award for what was clearly a supporting role. I don't know what's up with all that. Someone likes women with weird plastic surgery faces.

No matter. Rabbit Hole is a basically worthy movie but not rave material for me. 6 out of 10.

I doubt I'll ever see it, but I will say that it had probably the most depressing trailer I've ever seen. I remember thinking "Jesus. Who would watch this?"

Now I know.

It's actually not as much of a feel-bad movie as you might think. If they wanted to, they could have really gotten into the muck and wallowed around in it, but it is more focused on the dynamics of relationships that have gone through that. I have known for a long time that couples that lose a child often end up splitting; now I have a much clearer idea why.

Anyway, it's been slim pickins lately on the new DVD releases so ---> Rabbit Hole
