So I VPN into a German virtual desktop to do all my work. The Canadian office doesn't lock down anything on the laptop locally. I'm installing Steam right now to see how games run, should be ok for slightly older games. It's better than my laptop for sure.

I ain't getting fired for playing Final Fantasy XIII, I don't think 🤔

I know what I'm doing.

Coworker - The Germans can see everything you do here [the VPN/virtual desktop]. So don't do anything illegal in here.
Me - So just disconnect from the VPN before doing something illegal, is what you're saying.
Coworker - *pauses* Yes.
The VPN is for them to protect their network from the external device, it's a one way restriction. They don't need the VPN on to access the external device, Windows have plenty of tools to allow them to do that, they just need the device to be on. They can view, install, access logs and files.

lol, I doubt it

They felt bad about it but I insisted on finishing it myself. I literally had nothing else to do and I like putting stuff together.

I'm going to Germany next month. Most of this month is gonna be spent reading and learning and shadowing my coworkers. Gonna go on the road with the Ontario rep next week, looking forward to it.

Yah yah, I don't think they care though. This isn't a tech company.

Heeslingen, small town about an hour outside of Hamburg. My coworkers who went there are raving about it.

All the local restaurants and bars there run a tab for the company - you just say you work there and you don't have to pay for anything.

This one coworker insisted on tipping the waitress cause he thought she did an amazing job, but she initally got offended. He had to explain the concept of North American tipping culture before she would accept what she thought was a bribe. "Ok. I did a great job. Thank you."

lol
