I miss my bike.

Running intervals are getting longer. Still a ways to go before I can run a 5k continuously but we're making good progress.

Bumped final set clapping pushups up to 147 (NOT 174)
 
Workouts on track.

3x week 800 cals on treadmill, approx 40mins 3mph @ 25% - dunno if it's actually 800 cals just my measuring stick.
2x week full body weight training and 400 cals on treadmill.

It's pretty intense, I actually like to do 2 minutes of 30% every 5min. Just using the hr monitor attached to the machine grips I get to mid-high 160s. I'm holding grips 80-90% of the time which I'm sure reduces how much weight I'm "carrying" up the hill. Pretty soaked with sweat by the end.

It's like hiking, which I enjoy.

I don't think the watches can be too accurate. I hit a max of 193 the other day. I should be a max of 176.

thinking about an average of 175 makes me want to vomit
 
No no, my chest strap malfunctioned that day, it was stuck at 225 (!) for while. The highest real reading I ever got is 177bpm while going around the velodrome This is more typical during a run/walk:

Yeah yeah. But seriously, from a physics perspective I'm a 163lb weight and the belt running 3mph for 35mins at 25% creates a long inclined runway, a hill if you will. Moving a 163lb weight from the bottom to the top of the hill requires the same amount of energy no matter how you do it, right?

I think that holding on (or hiking with poles for that matter) just spreads which muscles expend that energy.. no? Maybe I'm missing something (in additon to looking like a tool).
 
Not sure about the physics involved. I think you're giving yourself a bit of an upper body workout while making it a bit easier on the ol' potato and legs. But maybe the cardio work ends up being exactly the same. 🤔
 
I saw the same thing when googling. Far from definite but likely makes it easier. I guess it causes me to not actually travel that distance. If you did a 35 minute iso hold off the belt you surely can't be said to have carried yourself up the hill. For what its worth they're vertical grab bars (it's a treat climber).

Perhaps I'll try to do less holding? We'll see.
 
I briefly tried the treadmill at its max incline (15%) yesterday. Strange feeling. Much easier than walking up stairs, but still a decent intensity. I did have the urge to grab the bars.

I normally set it to 1% for my walk/run intervals.
 
I've taken a few HIIT classes and they always do funky stuff on treadmills.

Try doing 15% at 3.5mph for a few minutes then 5% at 6.5mph, 10% at 4mph, 3% at 8mph etc.

The constant change up seems beneficial.
