Colorado governor signs police accountability bill, ending qualified immunity defense

"It takes a skilled marksman to hit someone exactly in the arm or leg, and, most officers are not skilled marskmen."

This is what I suspected, gotcha.

When a cops gun comes out and the trigger gets pulled, the time for deadly force has arrived. *yes, I understand that in the 100’s of thousands (millions more likely) of police interactions with the public and criminals there have been unjustified uses of deadly force.

But by and large they are justified uses of deadly force (those typically don’t make headline news, however). Therefore, cops are trained to shoot center mass (where the deadly part of deadly force is more likely).

Anyone who suggests that it’s easy to shoot a moving leg during a highly stressful event has likely never fired a gun.

And for what it’s worth, you can kill someone shooting them in the leg. Femoral arteries bleed like holy hell.

:dunno:

I was just surprised to learn that effective range for a 9mm is around 20-50 yards and probably on the high end there (or greater) for a practiced shooter like a cop. Not saying its easy to hit a specific inches wide moving body part at that range but from my limited experience shooting hand guns I'd have thought its was more like 10yds.

I never suggested it was easy - thanks for the explanation Tron. I have fired a gun.

I'm much more interested in root cause analysis and problem solving over simply playing the blame game which seems to be all people can do these days. Then again, they watch a lot of TV.

A cop shooting almost like seeing a play in football in slow motion on replay! Debate on a cop could have done this or that instead after the fact but in real time who knows? Just looked this up but Tron could give us more insight on shooting stances! Maybe these days none of these are taught? In some cases do police even have enough time to get in a particular stance? I have no clue but it appears to me hitting a target in a particular spot doesn't seem as easy as one would think!:dunno:

Hahahaha

Reminds me of Tom Hanks in Black Jeopardy, but with extra obliviousness

City of Aventura police, 5 patrol and 5 unmarked cars came to my neighbors' three houses down (City of Miami Lakes). Tron what type of charges would make police from another city come to make an arrest?

They were gear up in vest but no SWAT no evidence van, and they left pretty quick 30 minutes tops.

:hmm:
