You know it's hard to say what's reality and what's a political tactic to get shit for yourself in the name of helping people.
I've always been a proponent of universal medicine. But, especially in recent years I come to realize the problem is more the fear of people believing they can't afford to see a doctor. And that is due to the propaganda.
I don't believe there's large swaths of people in USA that can't see a doctor either before or after ACA. There's always been programs for those who can't afford, of course my favorite being, taking the bill straight to the trash can. Primarily what the ACA did was make young people cover what the government did prior. Nothing in this country gets done if "friends of the Party" don't benefit.

My point is, if you have to rely entirely on the public system, Canadian healthcare is a bit ghetto, and not just in Quebec.
Sure, tell me about your experience with the healthcare system in Alberta/Sask/BC. Was it ghetto there as well?
What are you comparing it to? Ever been hospitalized in the Dominican? Guatemala?
I'm sure wait times are longer in certain areas, but it has not been my experience in Windsor, Sask or BC, where I've spent considerable amounts of time and got to experience healthcare there.

Also, wait times in ER are for non life threatening situations, waits are created when patients with more serious conditions are processed first. Its not first come first served, a triage nurse determines who goes first etc.

Wait times for elective surgery are definitely much longer than in USA. Emergency services have no wait times.

Marty common.

I understand that there are medical facilities in the US that are much bigger, better quipped and have shorter wait times in some cases but thats probably because so many potential patients don't have the insurance required to be treated there. ie not "universal". If every American had the same treatments available then they would face similar situations.

This article says it well:

I just heard a fascinating nugget - cost of living up north is MORE than in the land of the free. Looked it up and its true - mostly due to the "free" healthcare (which I've also heard is dicey for anything serious).
Cost of living IS more in Canada, can't deny that. But the people it affects most, ie the poor, are FAR better off in Canada than an equally poor person in the USA. Booze, cigarettes more expensive here yet prescription drugs are much cheaper than USA.

So it’s like going to a second hand thrift store for clothes, but instead for doctors/hospitals?

Idunno plommer seems to know what he’s talking about.
Thanks for stopping by prtettyboy. Is all of this smart talk making your head hurt a little. If so, I understand, pal.

Canada - we'll let you see a doctor real quick, as long as you're dying 🤝

This article says it well:

If you need an MRI for care provided in a hospital you will get it whenever — depending on where you are because not every hospital has an MRI, but you will be prioritized and that will happen probably as quickly as it can be done anywhere. It is as the priority drops or is deemed less by whomever that the wait — so the waits are how long will you wait to see a specialist after seeing your family doctor.

Well that clears that up.

:clueless:

"You see Joe, wait times are how long you're going to wait, measured in units of time. Back to you guys in the studio."

Oh no. Another HOF Joe Morgan. Dead.
Member of my favorite baseball team, that I never saw play. Was just looking at his baseball cards.
And I for one always liked his color commentary.
They better induct Pete asap. How are they gonna feel when he drops dead?

Sad he passed. Personally couldn’t stand his play by play.

Welp there goes the last remaining Ottawa Senators fan :/
