Hypothetical situation, say you're driving your Escalade at 3am on a Saturday night and you get an order for a party of 4 at a Waffle House near I-95. As you pull up on the parking lot you notice 4 rappers waiting outside. Do you A. Make the pickup or B. Keep driving?
The one thing good about DoorDash is you can say no to any order you don’t want to pick up. I will not drive if the miles/dollar aren’t equal or better.

For instance, if I have to drive 7 miles total for the delivery, I better be guaranteed $7 or better.

Pick up but ordering a frappe for the road

Doesn’t that jack up your score, and then you get the shittier pickup options?

I did DD for roughly 19 days back in 2016.

After DansDeals Tweet About Anti-Semitic Driver, Uber Takes Quick Action

Okay, so if Uber Eats is like DoorDash, the tip is built in and explained to you before you take the order.

I can’t imagine it isn’t. Nobody would work for Uber Eats if it wasn’t.

Anybody stupid, careless and full of so much hatred to text a customer that should not only be banned from driving for Uber Eats, they should be blacklisted from every mobile delivery app.

Oh, I thought you already had an Uber Black-eligible vehicle. I'd vote firmly against investing in a car and putting a bunch of miles on it for the sake of Ubering, I think it'd almost certainly wind up being a -EV decision.
Here’s the thing, though.

I’m either going to buy a Tahoe, Telluride, a 7-10 year old Porsche 911 or a Suburban. I will be purchasing a vehicle regardless.

The 911 is obviously the least practical but will depreciate the least. The SUV angle is that I want one anyway for long road trips to the mountains. I’m not wealthy enough to justify a used 911 and a new Suburban.

The Suburban is the least expensive vehicle that qualifies for Uber Black.

My initial gut feeling about starting my own transportation company is ————> huge pain in the ass.

With Uber/Lyft, I don’t have to worry about the business end/accumulating customers.

@roguejuror , I was totally unaware that riders will make false allegations to get free ride vouchers. That’s fucked up.

I appreciate that insight. Here’s the thing with food delivery, though: that also involves a lot of hoofing up stairs, your car feeling like a fast food restaurant, finding parking at restaurants so you can pick food up.

And I can’t get over the fact that every Uber guy I talk to says Uber Black is the way to go.

:dunno:

Maybe I’ll just tail Stevie’s sports plays.

If you are already going to buy the car, then zero risk in trying it out. Takes virtually no time to sign up and get approved to drive. You can see how you like it, see how much money you make, etc.

No reason to overthink it. Give it a go and see what happens. Good luck!

Left Cumming, GA a week ago. Visiting my mother for two weeks before I head to FL and Louisiana.

Been Doordashing from 4:30AM-1:30PM the last 5 days.

Have amassed a little over $800

When nobody else is out and about and the traffic is non existent, it’s actually pretty chill to do. I get sent to places not even open yet and I simply verify that when I get to the restaurant. I get half pay for essentially driving to a closed place. Between 4:30-6:00 I get on average 3 of those and make an easy $21.

Then from 6:00-10:00 it’s the breakfast hit. That nets me $80 on average.

10:00-11:00 is slow and I only make $10 average that hour.

11:00-1:30 is the lunch hit and that nets me on average $50.

Today is my last day driving Uber Eats

It is beyond awful with customer service.

Today, this interaction with a prank order takes the cake.

Yeah, I’m done

uber eats 1

uber eats 2

uber eats 3

This guy placed two prank orders and I drove to pick them up. Evidently he did this to two other drivers before me with the same order.

I call him to ask him to cancel it. He proceeds to ask me if I would like to join a cult and do drugs

Anyway long story short, Uber Eats customer service not only doesn’t compensate me for time or gas but also proceeds to ding my cancellation rating 2 points which affect my level. I am the highest level.

Yesterday I was on the phone for an hour with them for another issue and was transferred 8 times. Nothing was resolved.

This happens EVERY TIME with their customer service.

@Boner_18 do you think I can file a class action lawsuit against them for a litany of improper workplace issues?

I’d like to know

If you find a lawyer to take the case, usually not a problem, sure you can file a class action. Im sure there are lots of class members... not so sure there's any legal liability to be had.

I dont know anything about the agreement you enter into with Uber and I think you're technically an independent contractor? If the latter is true it makes it harder.

Furthermore, I dont think Uber is necessarily in the wrong here. They cant guarantee that their customers aren't dicks and won't waste their contractors time/money - its a risk you take when YOU operate a business (which is what you're doing if you are a 1099 and not a W-2 ee). Doesn't mean theyre not a shitty partner (or MAYBE employer).

I wouldn't be surprised if you actually had a good case against the user. They knowingly enticed you to spend time/money for nothing, they defrauded you. You could probably win a case against them in small claims and its probably (minimally) criminal. I don't know the relevant state law or courts system you'd use but I suspect you'd have to spend $50 to recover less than that kinda thing (which i understand makes being lead plaintiff in a class a more attractive option).

It sucks. But move along, forgive (or not) and forget. Its not worth your time.
