Rewatch or watch for the first time?

I often feel the need to watch Clueless.

Pretty sure I saw it before, around the time it came out. I've certainly seen clips and have an idea of the tone of it.

I recently watched the new movie version of Emma - and it got me wondering about Clueless and how exactly they tackled it.

Watched Clueless. I thought it was a very fun and inspired adaptation of the old Jane Austen classic. It was really interesting how they worked so many of the original elements into there - while feeling at liberty to just change some shit totally up. The father character for example is totally different but I found him, and his relationship to Emma/Cher, more interesting than the original.

As I watched, I found myself thinking quite often, "That was a good decision."

How was the new Emma?

I've been meaning to watch it, honestly, mostly because of my love for Clueless.

I assume we're not talking about the Alicia Silverstone movie here? 🤔

Hmmm, the new Emma is pretty . . . what's the word? . . . reliable?

I would compare it to the recent remake of Little Women. Emma is more frivolous but they're both nice old stories from another time. Vivid characters. Basically good. (Actually Little Women used a jumping around timeline that I didn't like, but all the stuff was still there - and basically good.)

If you're into period sets and costumes and all that, Emma is an all-time great movie. I only give the most minor crap about that stuff but many people are gaga.

I found the choice of actress to play Emma a bit odd. Anya Taylor-Joy. I actually like her a lot but I feel like her future is in playing villains, bitches, psychos and possibly extra-terrestrials. She's got a slightly unusual look. She's lovely in a way but not how I picture Emma.

But once I accepted her in the role, she was quite charming.

That's what we're talking about.

Emma's on the right.

Clueless is Emma, is the thing.

Aaaaaah. Literary restomod so to speak. I geddit. I used to read books.

You mean there's a new movie called Emma? Just by the picture, I like the other one

Yeah, I saw most of that one, in bits and pieces. That actress was pretty cute. She's still around? I don't think it was a masterpiece or nothing

It's a masterpiece.

She's actually in a new horror movie that I'm going to watch tonight. But no, I haven't noticed her in a while.
