After Leon, we drove about 4 hrs to San Juan Del Sur which is a much more touristy beach town. Beautiful house that we rented with sunsets from the infinity pool made it feel like we were in a completely different country than Leon. Spent a ton of time at the pool just soaking in the views and a healthy combination of rum and Tona beer.

On our way to Granada, we stopped to swim in a crater to spend the day(Laguna Apoyo). I was able to swim one handed with beer in the other to the platform and avoid water getting into said beer. From there were drove to the top of an active Masaya volcano. At night you can see the glow of the lava and smell the strong sulfur smells.

In Granada we took a little boat ride with a local to see a wild monkey. One of the kids in the group was able to feed him by hand. Granada was just ok in my eyes. Tons of homeless and people begging for money or asking you to buy junk from them. We spent NYE there and I was able to watch Ohio State suck against Miami.

Finally got to go to Managua before returning home and destroyed a red snapper with a Michelada to wash it down. Spent a few days at the Casino and bet on College football and won a few dollars on blackjack.

Looks out of a movie.

Along the SJDS corridor they are building a new 'costanera' road. It will go up and down along the coast north and south of SJDS. Along that area there are virgin beaches hardly frequented by anyone. Some surfers have setup surf camps in a few of places and there are some turtle conservation reserves but hardly any development. Most of the villages there were along dirt muddy roads, small towns of just agriculture peasants. It was such a pain for 6 months out of the year that no one wanted to invest there. All that area is going to explode with development soon.

Great trip man, good that the girls are able to experience it now that they are older.

Thanks RJ. SJD has built up a ton since we were there in 2019 and I should only grow more if travel is made easier in and out of there. Travel around the country is definitely difficult due to the roadway conditions but also they also implemented a max speed of 50 KM/H (31 mph) nationwide even if posted signs said differently in June 2025 to reduce accidents. I had no clue that they had done this and was driving my normal speeds. Last time I was there, it wasn't uncommon to drive 80-100 kmh from city to city. Had to use waze to be prepared for police that were posted along roadsides throughout the country.
