May I ask why people are so anti anti depressant? . . .
Please fill me in on the thinking here. I am genuinely interested. Is it really the belief that the same thing can be achieved by other methods?
The side effects I guess for most(not Wellbutrin) are dampened libido/impotence but if you are depressed you really don't feel like having sex anyway. Another side effect is weight gain (Not Wellbutrin) but if you don't have the desire or energy to do anything but lay in bed all day, you will gain weight anyway.
I'm a firm believer in not taking prescription drugs. I don't even take tylenol for headaches or fevers or cold medication. I let my body fight it off to build the immune system. Never took antibiotics in my life. Never got any infections. If I'm depressed I get out of the house and take my motorcycle for a ride up in the mountains. You never see a motorcycle parked outside the shrink's office.
nah, the body doesnt really work that way... the stuff might give you cravings where you eat more or butcher your metabolism , but you gain weight by eating over your daily calorie maintenance ... which is easy to do with junk food for people who are depressed
The thing about the meds is, some people are just lazy and would rather take a pill than work. But some people have a genuine biochemical imbalance.
Not for me to judge.
I'm missing the argument here. Your weight/calorie maintenance number is determined by the amount of iinput vs.output... Someone who lays in bed all day eating the same as someone of equal height/weight (all other factors being equal) will more likely gain weight as someone who is out and about expending more energy.
Some depressed people eat more. Some are too depressed to eat.
your daily maintenance is determined by weight..in men, with normal heart rate and avg. metabolism, the standard is to take your (weight x 15) = your avg. daily calorie intake to maintain... if you subtract 500 from that, you will begin to lose weight without doing anything... for women, its about the same...there might be a slight difference, but you get the idea...
example...me = 162x15 = 2430 .. if i want to start losing around 1lb a week and sit at home, i can drop my calories to under 2000 and get it done with moderate to no moving around at all... right now im trying to gain, so im eating around 3000 cals a day...
the exception is taking a med (like a bad thyroid med) that slows heart rate and metabolism and does whatever the fuck that stuff does, you wont gain weight if you are eating less calories than your daily maintenance... you might lose any tone you had and muscles will diminish and move weight around, but you cant gain it.

i dont remember any of the depression meds fucking with my appetite or weight, but man they sure had an effect on my old noodle![]()
I gained weight during the time I was on Cymbalta but hard to say cuz I was working in a pretty sedentary desk job. I have lost weight on the WB but have been going to the gym more. Although they do call WB the happy horny skinny pill, and Cymbalta is notorious for weight gain, so probably a little of both..
What route did you take RR? Tell me about your hydroxycut deal.
I thought everybody here liked drugs.![]()
Personally I've kind of look down on (recreational) drugies.
But honestly I don't know why anymore. Sure the pot heads are kinda lame, but after noticing the positive effects of vicodin etc. Im all for it. What a difference a pill can make in your mood.
What kind of hard work are you talking about Muddy?
oh i was talking about the calorie maint. posts and how to figure that stuff ..
hydroxycut seems to wake me up (caffeine) but has some other good stuff in it to give metabolisms a boost... fw took it for a while.. def. one of the better over the counter fat burners if used properly...very tasty too..mixes well with vodka![]()
