Help me understand the appeal of a tablet

I don't really understand the appeal of an iPad or similar tablet in their current format.

I have an iPhone, I have a laptop computer. The phone makes telephone calls so there is a use for that other than the apps and browsing on the go, which is necessary these days. The computer is good enough for home use, much faster than a tablet, and also has a keyboard, and I doubt you can do everything on a tablet that you can do on the computer (installing programs, for example). I could probably make 5 posts on Gamelive on my computer in the amount of time it takes someone to make 1 or 2 posts from an iPad.

I guess one appeal of an iPad is for the apps? , but I've yet to see an app that was better than any counterpart available on the computer. My use comes from an iPhone though, so maybe I just don't realize what I'm missing out on. :dunno:

One thing that the iPhone or other smartphone is great for is when you're out, you can check the internet or use an app that you otherwise couldn't do unless you carried a laptop computer around, in addition to using it for a telephone or text messaging. When I am out (which is quite rare), I've yet to see someone carrying around an iPad or similar tablet. I see plenty of iPhone or Android phones for this purpose. I don't believe you can send SMS messages from an iPad, unless both parties have an app or something.

I have to be missing something, because these things are apparently so popular. What am I missing? If you have a smartphone and a PC, why would you need a tablet? What can it do that the other 2 products cannot do?
 
I also have iphone and mackbook. No need for Ipad.

I suppose it is for the people that don't have those.

There are plenty of people who have a smartphone, PC, and a tablet. There have to be, otherwise the iPad wouldn't sell out every time it comes out.
 
My gf, her parents all have iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, as well as a desktop. I don't get it either but they use the shit out of all of them.
 
I have an iphone, laptop, and a iPad 2. Love the iPad. i can see where it would be far better for a traveling salesperson than a laptop.
 
I like the ease of use with the IPad and I carry it around when I go out. There are still some websites that don't quite work right on a Droid phone. For instance my Sportsbook has a mobile version but it still doesn't function correctly but on my IPad it does.

I will admit I never carried my laptop around with me like I do the IPad mainly because it's just too cumbersome and the convenience is a great advantage but no less geeky.

I have an iphone, ipad, and macbookair. I take all 3 with me everywhere. Ipad i mostly use for reading. Im also an idiot. I also have 3 computers in my office.
 
iPad/tablet is a must have for the business traveler.

Beyond that it's a luxury

Ipad is for quick browsing and email. Just got my father one (who hates the Apple company) and he loves it.
 
I am curious if the new Blackberry version is truly better or any of the new ones for that matter.
 
No wally they all suck compare to the iPad.

Herman it's just more comfortable sitting back in the sofa or bed reading with it than it would be with a laptop.

Juror, Wally of six months ago had issues downloading firefox to his desktop.

Our Wally has come a long way.
