I don't know if it's Tron's reasoning or not, but many US fans cheer against El Tri because there is a big soccer rivalry between the US and Mexico.

I mostly like watching all the teams, especially Brazil. Do get a kick out of watching England lay an egg every world cup.
 
You don't have to be good to have rivalries; it usually just comes down to geographical proximity. I bet there is even a big US Virgin Islands / British Virgin Islands rivalry. Yes, they do both have teams.
