Not without offering to purchase one for the rest of the group. If you want to drink alone, call an end to the gathering and go somewhere by yourself.

I realize these rules may not work for everyone, but this is how I've always operated be it with family, friends or strangers. It's kept me out of a lot of situations that I see others going through which make them have to voice complaints like yours, where the only crime committed is one of unmet expectations. If you expect everything of yourself and nothing of others, you'll never have that problem again and you'll always interact from a position of strength.

Things I learned from this thread:

Plommer is awesome.
Sometimes I envy Blitty's life. Sometimes I do not. Right now, I do not.
Scholar still loves us. I knew it.
Teela is gonna touch my bits & pieces this weekend. Maybe that was a different thread I read that.

?

...I was sincerely interested

Ah, sorry. It read as "what do you know, fatso?" But then maybe I'm just insecure, haha.

Honestly, I'm only giving advice based on what I've observed among my social circle and what I personally would do. I've been with my current girlfriend since April of '07. Considering I turned 21 in January '07, I don't have much free market experience as a real "adult". Dated plenty of girls in college and high school... its an entirely different beast, but many of the same rules apply, I think. I certainly learned a lot from many-a-rejection.

Confidence, pal. Don't apologize.

I've been with women that acted like they were initially offended with my (confident) behavior as they claimed I was being chauvinistic (I wasn't) but later (after intercourse) they admitted they liked it.

Women don't usually communicate in a direct manner like men do, with them its always "read between the lines" and double meanings.
Women are always testing you one way or another. They like strong men and are repulsed by pushovers.

It can be a fucked up game but once you learn to play it its not so difficult.

No worries, just a miscommunication. You probably weigh the same as me these days. Thanks for sharing that.

the guy has always paid everything for a first date with me. But then again, I was always very aware of the fact it was costing him money and well, let's just call it, was a cheap date just to be considerate. And if things went well and I decided I wanted a second one, I would invite him over and cook. Never thought about showing him the grocery receipt and asking for half back.

Thats a logical series of events Nina. I have also cooked dinner free of charge for multiple dates.

Unfortunately, I think that there are a few slight differences between the dating scenes in NYC and Alabama.

im like durito and pay for everything, so i might not have much useful info, but this is my take...

Blitty, its simple... Chick is smokin hot and you know you will want to be with her again = pay for everything... Chick is not hot and you might not ask her out again because of it = you say "hey, you wanna drink? i got this round (by telling her that, she sorda understands that this is a friend thing and she knows if she wants another drink, she is picking up that round of drinks..easy enough)
I think thats how things should work when you go on a friend meet up/sorda date anyways...i think thats what the internet service has in mind as well... and for now, letting the girl know that you are new in town and looking for a job and stuff should clue her in that you arent looking to drop a bunch of money on shit right now.
