I would most likely hit the animal and avoid an accident and possible injury to myself or another person, not to mention damages to a vehicle and then waiting for it to get fixed etc. I haven't had to go through this, and I hope I never do, but I'd sooner run over it then cause injury to myself, other drives, or my car.

Wouldn't your natural inclination be to brake though? I just don't know if in that moment I would have time to think that all thru. I guess that is why I am thinking about it now.

You'd think it would be, but not if there is someone riding my ass. Then I am naturally going to avoid an accident. I would never want to run something over, but basically you are forced to pick the lesser of two evils, I'll take a dead cat over an accident. Just how I see it.

I think we just got the answer from Tron who has the most experience in this situation! OK, I probably jam on brakes for dog or cat but WTF, never stop and then get out of your vehicle!

All other animals IMO are in the predator-prey category of how and when their time arrives! And if I see a tractor-trailer in my rearview, no way I'm stopping cause they are trained to not stop unless 100% sure no issues doing so!

Would anyone here swerve out of the way of an elephant in the middle of the road with it's ass ground level facing your car, hole mysteriously lodged open? I say it depends what it had for lunch.

Or maybe if was facing towards the back of your car and you were driving backwards at 200 mph? That way you could go trunk to trunk.

It happened to me before. I put the pedal to the metal and oddly enough the sound of a revving engine scared the animal and put it out of harm's way.
Wow really?

You really gunned it? I am sure there is a reason behind that but curious what it is. I hope someday I encounter this situation so I can use all the information I am learning here.

Natural instict. Have you ever watched the Dukes of Hazard stop for an animal while being chased by the sheriff?

I treat any animal on the road smaller than a deer as the enemy, they are the taliban to me, we gun for them.

I would never swerve to avoid an animal at the risk of injuring a human, especially if that human is me.

I'm with Quincy on this one.

You soft fukks.

PS: I have noticed that trying to avoid hitting an animal on the road is a less successful strategy than trying to run it over.

Next time you see a squirrel on the pavement speed up and try to end the fuckers life, you will likely fail.

IAG, if you tried to swerve but still hit the animal and it survives but is mortally wounded do you drive away or do you do the right thing and get ther gun out of your glove compartment and blow the little critter away, saving it from hours of agony and a slow painful death?

If I had a gun, I would shoot it. I would probably get someone else to do it...but I would kill it for sure. The question is if I didn't have a gun if I would run over it again and again til it died. I don't think I could do that.

What do you mean "if" you had a gun?

Everyone in the US is armed, right?

Isn't the glove compartment also known as the gun compartment in the midwest?

IAB, you're shattering the stereotype.

You can use a sword if you don't have a gun. No need to run over the animal multiple times.
