No I am saying what is happening is not working

And the murders seem to be escalating

I think it's time to look at possible solutions, obviously I don't have the information in front of me to know what the odds are the that it will be effective.

Seems that probability suggests more of the same if nothing is done.

Do you suggest that is not the case?

Part of the issue is that people are being given antidepressants at a high rate without a full evaluation. While medication should not be the first step or an immediate solution, antidepressants can be very effective in helping people that are struggling with depression. However, a person needs to undergo a comprehensive evaluation due to the nature of medication - if a person is given a medication that is not appropriate, it can have a very nasty effect on the person.

Speaking firsthand, I went to my annual "girl" exam and they asked if I needed antidepressants. Do I? Absolutely not. They are using that as a treatment for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, which I do not have. A woman's hormones are all over the place, and if they mention that they're cranky before their shark week, they're instantly given antidepressants or anti-anxiety medication. The doctor (nurse practitioner) was not a specialist. She should not have been prescribing that type of medication simply due to the fact that I said I feel like I'm out of control of my emotions a few days out of the month.

In other words, I don't believe that the medication itself is always bad. Can it be improved? Absolutely. My current issue with medication is the ease of access and the lack of responsible evaluation prior to prescribing.

The most ominous thing I have seen in this whole debate is this. At what point did your gender start using the term "shark week" for that time of the month? As if you guys are not moody enough, shark week. God

I beleve that every case is slightly different and that people overreact and are quick to attempt to apply a broad, simple-minded solution to an extremely complex problem.

I can't really get on either side of the fence very far. I guess if anything I'm just kinda cynical and numb

its just life.... shit happens, there are alot of people in this world, and many of them are just deranged and capable of doing really sick shit.

That is what my boyfriend calls it. He thinks it is hilarious and I have, unfortunately and without thought, began to call it that.
 
I know around here there are parents who give guns as gifts to their kids. A guy I work with is buying his 9 year old son a 4-10 for Christmas this year. I understand how in his mind it is a right of passage, though I can't wrap my head around giving a child that young a gun. It is intended to only be used under strict adult supervision in this case but I know of other situations where that isn't always the situation.

No need to flame since you are entitled to your opinion and in this case your opinion while different than the majority isn't insensitive.

Like most I value a child's life over that of an adult. Though I have never had a child of my own there is still the perception that a child is the most innocent of all especially children as young as the ones killed in this latest shooting.

There was nothing those little kids could do to prevent this from happening. It was no different than someone going into a kennel and slaughtering dogs and cats trapped in their cages. Certainly they were too small to overtake the shooter, they were completely at the mercy of fate.

While it may have been no different with the Virginia tech shootings the perception is that being of college age and size enough of them could have overtaken the shooter. Again I say perception cause they were older but in actuality they were probably no less trapped and vulnerable.

I don't know about making them a prison but what about like a secure military base if that helps change the perception. 10-foot chainlink fence with razor wire, one way in, one way out, armed guard at the entrance to the compound.

Sounds intense, exaggerated, maybe it does but it would serve as a deterrent and actually if it prevents situations like this past Friday who cares if it's turning our schools into prisons? It's better a prison than a cemetery.

Violence in the USA is down quite a bit in recent years. Still higher than other developed countries. Don't know about mass murders though.

You don't need all that. Just the presence of 4 security guards with german sheppards patrolling the perimeter of the school and parking lots would be adequate.
