JC Penny's is selling wine now??? Aww shit I gotta price shop now

Matty I need a decanter, I do you wine snob

But 8 years is about perfect on this one

S'not snobbery, s'just that most ageable wines I try absolutely need it. Tasting a 2007 Bordeaux without first letting it sit there for a couple hours was a horrible experience.

12 bucks at Ikea.

Some oxidization lets younger wines settle down and get rid of overly harsh or "green" flavors.

Premium Cabernet Sauvignon & Barolo, among others, require several hours of aeration if you're going to drink them before they peak. (Some wines require as much as 15-20 years in the bottle before they reach their peak.)

Buying these wines AT their peak is prohibitively expensive. You can easily spend 4 digits per bottle for world-class bottlings.

Buying shortly after release and aging the wine yourself is almost always the way to go.
