haha I'm still somewhat convinced someone hacked into my account to type that. I've never uttered half of those words and have definitely never typed them out. Not sure where the hell that came from.

SoV, I'm going to try my hardest not to push him in any direction. And to definitely not be the crazy sideline mom. As it is now, I still wince a bit if I see some massive kid knock him over accidentally when they're playing but my son just laughs it off and it doesn't faze him at all so I'm learning that he's tougher than I give him credit for. I'm getting better.
 
I think it stems mostly from this chick I dated here and her kid was a fucking hyper brat. So not only did I have to hear his motor mouth running around all day, but then she'd yell at him, then he'd start crying, and I wanted to kill someone.

You're also an outsider and really have no room to discipline the kid. Then, there's also the father drama that you have to deal with. It's just too fucking much.

Yeah there can definitely be a weird dynamic and it can get pretty messy. My son's still in the wobbly toddler phase so a guy would have to be a statue to not find the whole thing cute. But I'm curious to see how it'll go when he's older. There was one guy I was kind of seeing for awhile who flipped out one night because my son woke up for a bottle and I had to step away from the poker game we were playing in the middle of a hand. He thought I should just let him cry it out. Needless to say the guy didn't last long after that.

Oh and then there was the guy I only met for lunch because my brain froze and I couldn't come up with yet another excuse and when my son accidentally spilt his juice on my lap he thought I should spank him. Seth wasn't even walking at that point. So now I've resigned myself to just being alone until he's 18 and at college. Too much drama.

Yeah, no clue. But I just took it as a sign that if someone thinks a baby should get smacked for that when they don't even have proper brain functioning or hand eye coordination yet, then I'd hate to see it when the child is older. Kids can be little turds for sure but whacking them when they do something accidentally isn't going to help much. Some scary people out there.
 
have you ever hit seth? if not would/will you? what kind of offense for? what age approximately would u stop? big aland i discuss this alot.us my mind is always changing.us i guess i won't know till we steal some little buggers from 3rd workday orphanges
 
I've slapped his hands twice. Once when he was pinching my boob really hard and another when he took his bottle and tried to pour it down one of the heater vents. Neither time accomplished much other than him looking at me for a second in shock and then crying so hard he wanted cuddles from his mother. I'm not sure if I'll spank him in the future. I wasn't spanked as a child except for once that I remember and I turned out ok. I seem to do fine with just changing my tone of voice and giving him a certain look. But right now he's still just in the exploring stage so there's not any malicious intent behind what he does. I might change my tune if he turns out to be a hell raiser although I wouldn't slap you or another adult if you were doing something wrong so probably not.

I that I think spankings “work” for some kid's and parents' temperments but ya gotta use some trial and error on the fly and realize as a parent that kids are super resiliant and will overcome the “mistakes” of a LOVING parent.

A friend of mine signed her son up for some 10 week baby manners course and was truly offended when I said no, we wouldn't be joining as well. She launched into me about how it'll teach our kids how to act during their preschool trials (because of course these damn "schools" just don't accept your kids off the bat) and how the course instructor focuses on proper etiquette in play and serious situations. Pretty good scam for $699.

I said awhile ago I would reread this whole thread when it got to 100 pages. Seemed far away at the time but now it is almost reality. That would be a lot of reading. Maybe I should say 200. That could never possibly come.

Procrastination FTW.
 
I have decided what I am having for dinner tonight. Grilled cheese sandwiches - very thick slices of cheddar - with bacon and some sliced up chicken breast in there. Ketchup and dill pickle on the side and probably some chips too. Nanaimo bar for dessert.

Damn that sounds good to me right now. Is there a name for those sandwiches or am I making that up?
