I know it's not Dodger Stadium, but Petco Park (where the Pads are hosting the Dodgers in question) is a great time too! San Diego is awesome, could easily beat traffic going down early and make a day of it.
Interesting. I had thought about this but didn’t think it could be done as a day trip.

It’s a 6:45 game. Getting to Petco at 4:45 would be easy but we would probably get back to our hotel in Torrance very late with an early wake up call to get the airport.

I’m gonna think seriously about doing this!

ChatGPT says it will be 2.5 to 3 hour drive going back to Torrance after a Friday night game against the Dodgers. I’m not sure my 53 year old self will be be able to swing that the day after a World Cup match. I would love to go to Petco, though. It looks great and we could check off another ballpark as visited.

I’ll keep it on the radar.

One more food tip; there's a place called Eat Fantastic very close to LAX that is never crowded and always awesome. Not a must stop or anything, but if you are hungry right off the plane and the boys like that kind of food (burgers, tenders, fries), it'll be way less crowded and better than most things nearby.

Lunch Box is a burger, 2x tenders and fries 🔥. Upgrade to the fried zucchini sticks (or just order some on the side), money!
What is your favorite burrito spot in the South Bay area? I’m dying to have a great LA bean burrito.

The Pacific Surfliner train from LA to SD is enjoyable and convenient - If you can get the timing to work

Brother Burritos (no dinner) near the beach in Hermosa is pretty great for breakfast burritos, haven't had their lunch burritos but I'd imagine they are good too.

Tigres Fuego I get the tacos and ceciche so cant personally vouch for the burritos, but wife's family loves them and the food is excellent overall so I'm sure those would hit the spot.

Angels are hosting the Athletics that Friday too. Shit game, but flip side to that you'd probably be able to get killer seats dirt cheap. Drive there would be annoying in Friday rush hour, but early start (6:40) and drive back no traffic would be under 45m.

Nice work.

Im currently trying to upgrade for Reds @ Yankees 6/19. I sold my pair and looking to get a better pair (or maybe 4x if I bring the kids) for the same amount.
Thanks, pal :pepe:

But there is one thing that’s a little unsettling: when I click on my tickets that are now in my FIFA World Cup ticket app it shows me the details of my ticket (game/section/seats) but at the top it says “This ticket is not yet ready. It will be activated on the day of the match”

I’m probably making too much of it and this is probably a security measure?

$10 for a hot dog is very normal for an American sporting event. So is a $8 water.

A tall beer is usually $14-$17

$300 for parking is wild. The most I’ve ever paid is $75.

I still haven’t decided on how I will get to/from SoFi Stadium.
Not sure how it is in other cities, but literally every LA event its just progressively cheaper the further away you park. When I used to go to Kings games I would always park 3-4 blocks away from Staples for $10, passing $20, $30, $40, and $75 lots along the short walk.

Driving will be way better than ride share. Once you get anywhere near the stadium you'll see a bunch of huge signs with different prices. I'm sure if you are willing to walk a bit you'll be able to find something at or under $100.

Cheapest option if you don't mind the crowds would be Metro: https://www.metro.net/riding/world-cup/

The cooler comes on the river and I’m now $7K invested on a soccer match that means nothing to either of the teams involved (this includes extreme likelihood that USA rests its best players).

I’ve left it up to my sons as far as the next move

The only caveat being that I’m not throwing more money into the WC.

Bummer man. Still take the trip (or a trip) but sell dem tix and go party somewhere else in/around LA? You bought very well and it sounds like you could profit 500-800 per ticket?

Marlins are in St. Louis and then Denver over the weekend? Drive the PCA? Take em on a last minute cruise?

Or just go to the game cause World Cup?

@Tron Obviously do whatever makes sense for you and your sons, but I think it's really a matter of perspective.

Yes, the game "means nothing", but that in and of itself is incredible. The US hasn't had a run like this in, well, ever.

The mood and atmosphere should be absolutely electric. It's like a celebration or victory lap at this point. Of course a meaningful game would have been better, but it's still a World Cup game.

With the way the US is buzzing top to bottom right now, they should play some fun attacking football regardless. And especially with no pressure, there's no reason for them to park the bus and do nothing. They can just go have fun and get some depth guys useful reps.

And Turkiye is fucking humiliated, lots of young guys on that team that will have their spot on the 2030 team called into question. I'm sure they'll prefer going out on a high note to "build on" as opposed to another shit game.

I think if ya'll come in with the mindset of this is going to be a stress-free party, it'll be a blast. I think everyone there will feel like they are part of a historic run and be going nuts.

Consider the alternative; a disappointing draw v Paraguay, a loss to Australia, and we are playing for a potential 3rd place spot here... and lose or draw. Everyone bummed. At least in this scenario there's really no outcome that ruins anyone's mood!

All of this to say, not trying to talk you into it, YOU and your family decide how you spend thousands of your hard earned dollars. Just wanted to give a different perspective. Having what looks to be a legitimately great World Cup team is a cool problem to have!
