So I have already booked flights to Los Angeles from June 24th to June 27th for the sole purpose of attending the USA v Turkey Group Play match on June 25th.

The airline tickets aren’t refundable but I can change the dates times or have a Jet Blue Credit. I bought 3 tickets (it will be my sons and I).

About 7 months ago I booked a hotel room for us in Torrance/Palos Verdes (12 miles from SoFi Stadium). I have the option of cancelling the hotel up until a certain point.

I have not purchased tickets to the USA game yet. I could have bought them during one of the numerous FIFA sales but I chose not to at the time because of the pricing.

The cheapest tickets on StubHub right now are in the high $800’s.

I see this as a once in a lifetime event with my sons and file it in the I’ll Be Dead In 30 Years (If I’m Lucky) folder.

If you were me, would you lock in the tickets now or try and wait out the market (and sweat the big downside of ticket prices going up and not down)?

I’m only spending $1,100 on the hotel and $1,500 on non stop flights.

Maybe set a "stop limit" where you're willing to risk it? So if they hit 1000 you buy (and youre out $600 relative to today). I know its world cup but i dont see a reason theyd behave unlike other big events (price drops close to game time). I bet you'll do better than today's price (in total price or quality of seats).

Unlike other major sporting events if the area where the games are hosted have a large ethnic population of one of the teams playing the tickets could be quite scarce. My friend buys last minute tickets for MLB games but I like a sure thing and always have tickets beforehand it’s less stressful.

I like these but I get weirded out that it only lists Section and Row but not specific seats

turkey vs usa

Yes. There’s a pretty big part of me that wants to show up at SoFi stadium 3 hours early and just soak in the atmosphere and not be checking my phone every 40 seconds to see if prices are dropping.

Basically right now, the tickets I’m targeting are Sections 510 thru 518 or Secs 537 they 544. Those are starting at about $910 currently. Those are upper level seats that aren’t in the corners or behind the goalkeeper.

@Vegas Dave you are my LA King with all your helpful info.

Is that 12 miles from Torrance/Palos Verde to SoFi gonna be a 2 hour Uber at 3PM on a Thursday WC game day?
It's hard to predict. 20-30m drive with no traffic typically, probably 35-45m that time of day.

For a normal "big event", traffic wouldn't be affected much besides right in and around the stadium. I've been to Wrestlemania there, my wife went to Taylor Swift there. So not sure if WC is comparable to other mega events like that (sold out is sold out), or if it is an entirely different beast.

The real issue will be in and around the stadium where it will be fucking bananas to get in the building, let alone to wherever the hell your seats are.

Long story short, if you leave at 3pm, you'd be fine. I'd guess closer to 1H than 2H to get there.

But personally I'd go earlier, like noon or one. They'll have tons of booths and activities outside of the stadium. Inside will be a super cool atmosphere. Might as well make a day of it!

But do you do this when you have traveled 2,700 miles for the game and already spent $2,700 without tickets to the event in hand?
I agree with CB. What you'll have to do is get a feel for the market (I don't know the fifa ticket market). If you can find last minute Super Bowl tix, you should be able to get these last-minute also.

Ohhh I was thinking Torrance proper, now seeing the PV bit on re-read. So probably add another 20m no traffic, 30m at 3pm, potentially more depending on how far south you are
The game starts at 7PM Pacific.

I want to arrive to join the tailgate party at 3PM the latest.

So I should be good jumping in a Lyft at the hotel at 1:30 PM? Thanks, Dave.

I’m also a little concerned about getting a Lyft after the match ends. Should be a madhouse but I’ll just have to embrace the mini-suck of that.
