I would also like to add regarding the bit about everyone knows what you do for a living and you are that guy:

Yes, there are people who express blanket anti-cop sentiments. It's out there and it is IMO some of the most bizarrely shallow thinking that humankind is capable of. It is indefensible and insupportable but it is out there.

But to some of us, the being-a-cop part of things makes you that guy in the sense of : I am very grateful and appreciative that people are willing to do that essential and difficult job. You are that guy. :

People who feel like me are no doubt less vocal than those boldly rebellious anti-authority rascals (who will hopefully start a new thread if they want to rehash their thoughts on it), but I do speak up about it once in awhile such as now.
