We went through this with Casper last year I think. IMO reaching (and retaining) new or small demos is the name of the game with the half time show. Women and non-black minorities.

Getting acts that middle aged men of any color care about is not important. Coca-cola and budweiser already know they can reach those people by buying Superbowl ad time.
