The Georgia Supreme Court says a South Georgia convenience store can be held liable in the death of a customer to whom the store sold a 12 pack of beer.

The state's highest court overturned a lower court ruling, and found that a Clinch County convenience store can be held liable in a crash that killed six people.

The court ruled 6-1 that the store can be held liable for selling beer to a driver who was noticeably intoxicated. His car later hit a van, killing himself and five other people. Now store owners know they will have to judge which shoppers are drunk.

yrs ago a popular nightclub was sued here and eventually shut down cause someone left drunk and killed someone...

IMO, thats different though.

soon you'll have to take a Breathalyzer before buying beer at the local curb store

They need to make a law then for installing breathalyzers outside the store and force every customer to use it before getting in their cars.

Would you imagine if they have a law like this for bullets? Like guy walks in the gun shop with a gun to buy bullets and then he killed someone later that night and the store owner is charged because the customer noticeably brought a gun at the store when he bought the bullets.

The key is noticeably drunk. The state will fine the person who sold it too.

Actually in Michigan a patron could go bar-hopping all night. The last bar he was at will get the fine if they get served one and he gets in an accident. I have bartended off and on for years. Would I pay $500 to give a obviously drunk person (who I don't know is driving) another? Heck no.
