Plommer, if a team went to Hamilton, who the fuck would root for them?

Would people stop rooting for the leafs.

I dont like the frenchies, but Quebec City needs a team.

If a team ends up in Hamilton it would be like the Jets/Giants in New York. Leafs will always be number 1 but if the other team is successful they will be supported as well. If the Leafs are horrible and Hamilton was good then Leaf fans would support the better team as a protest of Leaf management.

Agree Quebec City needs a team.
 
People would go to Hamilton (or Markham or wherever) for the cheaper seats. I know I'd be a lot more likely to attend live games several times a year if I could get great seats for under $100 a piece.

Given that I described diehard fans as fags, that is a reasonable conclusion.

It was not the case with my teams from my past life - I was a fan of the Cowboys/Habs from before I can remember - the Blue Jays came along later. And then the Raptors. (I keep forgetting the Raptors but that's a thing.)

But in the future, unless I suffer some kind of stroke that drains me of all my sophistication in life, I guarantee that the time I have to devote to my teams will be in direct proportion to their success.

In the NHL I will switch teams constantly depending on the style they play, where the players I like move to.

I can relate to this. I tend to cheer for teams that I enjoy watching. Although I was still a Habs fan through the 80's, the Oilers became my clear #2 team because they were so great to watch. I always wanted them to win whatever playoff series they were in (except against the Habs) so I could watch them some more.

Similar deal with Peyton Manning. I tend to want him to succeed because I like his style.



As for the appeal of the Cowboys, there is no answer for that. It wasn't a decision. I was a Cowboys fan from my first football consciousness and that was that. Probably because my older brother was (and still is) a Cowboys fan so I just joined in on the behavior.
 
I think someday the NHL will go to 4 on 4, and some of that artistry might come back. I dont blame teams for trapping, these coaches have to win or lose there jobs, and with expansion and the dilution of talent, I think its sometimes their best chance.


I tried to teach my high school the left wing lock today, the had no fucking clue.
 
Looked this up but remember as a teenager first hockey game I went to! There was an old World Hockey League that was around in the 70's that stole marquee guys like Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe and the sort from the NHL to try a go at it as competition!

This guy is all I remember from the visiting team ......... Wayne Carlton ........ guy was like a man playing with boys!

The WHL team it appears moved to Cherry Hill, NJ (suburb of Philly) for one year! The place we considered as a local skating rink more than a hockey arena! I mean no one was there and we were right on the ice ....... I don't even remember glass protecting us from a flying puck! LOL!

Well this is written bout the Jersey Knights and the Cherry Hill Arena .........

Soon after, the WHA moved the team to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, a suburb of Philadelphia, and renamed them the Jersey Knights. In a sense, this returned the WHA to Philadelphia; the Blazers had moved to Vancouver shortly after Lacroix left for the then-Golden Blades.

The newly minted Knights soon discovered their new home, Cherry Hill Arena, had a slope in the ice surface, which forced visiting teams to skate uphill two out of three periods. Sports Illustrated later described Cherry Hill Arena as "perhaps the worst facility" used by any WHA team, noting that it lacked showers in the dressing room for visiting teams, who had to dress at a Holiday Inn two miles away.

I remember them, they also played at Maple Leaf Gardens in the 70's.

My mother used to get Leaf tickets and Toro's tickets from work and I usually ended up going to Leaf games and my kid brother got stuck with the Toro's tickets, lol.


no wonder he hates me.

I remember my mother would call me from her office and say: "my boss has offered me the company Leaf tickets for the Sabres game Saturday night, do you want them?"

I was like "fuck yeah and in the future you don't need to call home and ask, I'm a kid and I want to go to Leaf games at Maple Leaf Gardens - take any tickets offered, ALWAYS! - common,"

Why not just go to the 100ft wide rink? Would the trap/lock still work with an extra 20ft worth of passing lanes?

I think part of the problem with going to 100 ft wide rink, is are the owners going to get rid of the seats in some rinks that would be required to make this happen. I can tell you in Boston where the building is packed the past few years, Jacobs isn't going vote to get rid seats, thats stealing money out of his pocket.

Teams, who trap, I feel are afraid of space, they dont have the talent or speed to cover space, I think the wider rink would make teams trap more, since there is more space. But what the hell do I really know.
