Working on it. Here is a snippet let me know if you want more.
I can't recall any parent recanting a tale where their precious little namesake came to them one day and said, "mom/dad, when I grow up I want to be a professional gambler". Sure you hear about becoming a doctor a lawyer, a fireman or a policeman maybe even an astronaut or the president but you just don't hear of them wanting to become a professional gambler. It could very well be simply because at such a young age they haven't been exposed to the world of gambling or maybe straight out of the womb we instinctively know that living the life of a gambler while potentially exciting is more often a very rough life indeed.
So when does the desire to gamble hit us? I would imagine that varies as much as anything else but probably for most it all starts innocently enough in the high school range. It starts small with, "I betcha I can make that shot". From there it professes to, "I betcha I can jump across that so and so". That's all that is at stake at that time just the reward of putting it out there and pulling it off. Soon though the challenge becomes increasingly demanding and "I betcha" needs to have more of a risk or reward behind it. Again it starts out small and seemingly insignificant like lunch money or maybe you collector edition comics but for many what starts out small sometimes plants a seed that eventually forms a forest of despair.*
Ok so it doesn't always take this path, I mean there are some who make a living at it right? Well we all know a guy who knows a guy who lives a very comfortable life from all his gambling winnings. Or we know a guy that is just lucky and never seems to lose. Trust me, the guy who is living that comfortable life from all his gambling efforts is not your average schmuck looking at today's odds in the local news paper and that Mr. Lucky, if you aren't him you can't become him.
So what about the rest of us? Well, we either realize very early on that there are much easier ways to make a living or extra income or we brace ourselves for a very sporadic life of piques and valleys.......................*
