mall jeweller quoted me $9k for the exact diamond I ended up importing from NYC

yea they fked me over.

same ring was 25% cheaper at the other location of the same store where we got it fitted.
 
center stone should be 1+ carat. im looking at my earring now, they're 1 carat, and thinking that half of one of those would be a rather small ring. It's a matter of taste and budget, but really. 1 carat or higher Blittwit, don't be cheap with that trust fund money.
