On Sunday July 28 is the Venezuelan elections. Maduro has rigged it already, banning his most powerful opponents from even running and a bunch of other frauds. It's going to be such a scam that not even the Carter folks, the current socialist Colombian admin or Lula's people want to go validate the results. If everything goes to plan Maduro will be there another 6 more years.
But unlike the previous times the game is unbalanced now. The massive migrations of Venezuelans have strained all their neighbors and the United States. The Venezuelan migrants are destabilizing countries, specially Colombia, Peru, Chile, Brazil and the United States. It takes huge amount of resources to take in migrants, specially this type of unskilled, uneducated migrants. Crime has surged, budgets are wasted, citizens are pissed, xenophobia has been normalized. The voting base is not happy and no politicians want that. No matter how much charitable you want to be or want to appear to be, when a politician's mat gets pulled from under their feet they will do whatever to not fall. This is the catalyst.
It's imperative to Russia and Cuba for Maduro to stay. They have intelligence officers openly working with their Venezuelan counterparts inside the country. In 2019, after a few turmoil episodes, there was a day when Maduro was sitting in a plane ready to take off and Russian spies drove up the runway impeding him from escaping, convincing him to stay by pledging the full support of Putin. In exile there's upwards of 8 million Venezuelans, with the country burdened the most being Colombia taking between 3-4 million of them.
Maduro, as dictatorial as he seems from the outside, does not control the country. Venezuela works under a three mafia system. The first mafia group is the political piranhas that Chavez created, this socialist anti-imperialist ideological group that swallowed the poor class, destroyed industry and impoverished the nation. These group of piranhas are composed of ex-cops ex-military dumb fucks that have no idea how to run an economy, that leaves them with the oil profits as their only source of funding, which they pilfer dry every damn year. With Venezuela having the world's biggest oil reserves this is an endless source of money.
The second mafia group are the high ranking military officials, these are the people that control the weapons and the country. Unlike other countries where you see coup d'etats frequently like African countries, here there's no one single person in charge of the military. They have organized themselves in groups, with loyal commanders and sergeants and soldiers. The dons at the top of each group must feed that loyalty with money. Besides taking a huge chunk of the yearly budget for themselves, they are also in the narcotics trafficking racket. That is their number one source of funding. The majority of the Colombian drug production gets moved through Venezuela on behalf of the Mexican cartels. They charge handsomely for this service.
The third mafia group are the low ranking military officials. Imagine these people not as dons or capos but more lowly associates, in comparison to the Italian hierarchy. These are people that operate more like the traditional organize crime groups, they operate as loan sharks, drug selling, contraband, extortion, pimps, and all the typical crimes. Their base of power is having weapons with their position in military and law enforcement. While these groups are not as monetarily powerful as the other mafias, they do wield power and have incited whole cities against the government before.
Some members of all these three mafia groups make up a symbolic organization known as El Cartel de los Soles - The Cartel of the Suns. It's an organization that lives not in the traditional cartel sense but more like a networking organization. Where for example someone in government might want to order an assassination, that gets carry out by a low ranking military group, that in return gets paid by a high ranking military allowing a convey of drugs through.
Right now Colombian, American and god knows who else's intel officers are working overdrive opposite of the Cubans and the Russians to flip these military groups, high and low, to force a Maduro exit. It can happen now more than ever. It must be exciting in the CIA's command rooms. It's calculated that 6 more years of Maduro would mean an additional 4 million Venezuelans exiting the country. Maduro's plan b is take a plane to Turkey. He has already mansions, assets and accounts there, and most importantly Erdogan's approval. It is estimated that he has stolen between 4 and 5 billion dollars.
