Is my dad ashamed of me?

Update here.

My Dad called an impromptu breakfast out this morning (about 10 of us) after hearing I was getting promoted to professional band and salary and taking on a lot more responsibility within the company. Came just short of saying he's proud of me.

He's come such a long way. Does anyone remember that video where he was passing out all over his house spitting out vodka with his woman screaming at him trying to jam steak in his mouth? I remember that. Maybe he was hitting bottom there. I love bottom to top stories.
 
Long story short - Parents split and I haven't seen or heard from my father since I was three. About six months ago or so, he found me via facebook, it took some time, and a few "arguments" but, in the end I chose to forgive him for being absent and give him a second chance. So far...so good.

That's very big of you. Don't know if I could have done that, but everyone is different and some more forgiving than others.

BTW.... you bite really hard.
 
Yeah my brother refuses to say so much as one word to him. Perhaps he doesn't deserve it. I dunno. I wanted a chance to find out why, I wanted to a chance to get to know him for my own reasons. I guess mostly to put questions I've had to rest finally. Once I got those answers, I was faced with a choice: be satisfied with the answers and be done, and lose your father again, or give the old man a second chance. I went with second chance, I didn't want to hurt him, and it's nice to have him around...plus, I don't want to hold on to any negative emotions, life is better with out them. I'd rather be happy.

He lives close by?
 
Rog, he lives about 3 hours away. Which means, as a child, he only lived 4 hours away from me, and claims to not know where we lived, which we all know is bullshit, I lived in the same town my whole life. Well - he tried to see us once, and my mother and brother said no...so I think that hurt him and he just stayed away after that. I don't know. It's complicated...but I keep telling myself, better late then never I guess....I proceed with extreme caution.
