Political views should not have any effect in someone's job performance. We condemned the old Soviet Union for silencing the people who disagreed with their policies and now we are doing the same to Ozzie even though we preach First Amendment rights for everyone. Let him say whatever he wants. I find most of the stuff he says amusing and I'm never insulted by it.

The first amendment doesn't apply to speech while working in any capacity for a private business. The Marlins are very unlike the Soviet Union as they are not a government. But I agree that he is simply amusing and there is no reason for me to be insulted.

When you're the manager of a team that is supposed to be MARKETABLE to the general public and you continuously make unprovoked, outlandish, and polarizing comments, it may cost the team fans. The Marlins historically haven't really been a team that can afford to lose fans. His personal political views should be just that - PERSONAL. His very occupation is the ONLY reason that anyone even hears the nonsense that he regularly spews. While I think he's a nutjob, yes, he has every RIGHT to say what he wants. That doesn't mean that he has every right to keep his job for it though.

Not sure about the present but in the past America has required certain foreign nationals to be fingerprinted at customs/immigration, when arriving in the US. Some people are offended by this, it's a shitty way to treat a guest, so Venezuela implemented the same policy for Americans travelling there and it pissed off the US , apparently treating others like shit is ok but when it happens to Yanks its not cool.

The US has a great tradition of treating people well. Look how they used to treat Africans.

You are referring to Cuban ex-pats that reside in Miami, and are therefore US residents.

Fukkin country is so god damned paranoid!

It's mostly desperate people that want in to America (and that the US is trying to keep out) and they tend to cross the border illegally.

There are plenty of Americans that won't come to Canada because of the hassle and vice versa with Canucks to the USA.

North American border crossings are hell compared to the way it's done in Europe.

I keep hearing the propaganda about how "friendly" the US and Canada are as nations towards each other. I would agree except for the border crossing part.
 
The people most offended by the comments are those first generation immigrants. I talked to a 74-year-old Cuban immigrant (huge Marlins fan) today and he understood Ozzie was a "big mouthed Venezuelan" before he came to the Marlins and as long as they win he does not care. Many of the first generation Cubans' children and grandchildren are upset because it has brought up their difficult past and the very reason why they had to leave the country that they loved.

It does not conjure up any emotions to the vast majority of us that are not afflicted by the comments but I reserve judgement of the comments until I can see them in their entirety. Although it is incomprehensible that he would utter the words sequentially "I love Fidel Castro," it is hard to believe he meant it literally.

I love people that are not afraid to say what they really think and feel. I would trust these people before I would trust somebody that would tell you one thing to your face and another behind your back. It's ridiculous that he would make these comments knowing what the Marlins are trying to accomplish in developing a multicultural experience, but I hope he is not exiled for the comments.

This is true. And then people wonder why the US tourist industry sucks and Las Vegas has no jobs. Who in their right mind would fly from overseas to Vegas to spend his money for fun when he has to be fingerprinted at the airport?
