Nine years after cashing her $10.5-million cheque, Hamilton lotto winner Sharon Tirabassi is catching the bus to her part-time job so she can support her kids and pay the rent.

"Tirabassi is happier today, she says, adding life has more purpose now than when she was shopping"

whoreshit..she has a part time job, 6 kids of her own and her husband has 3 kid from another marriage... this broad aint happier...she wakes up every day wanting to kill herself

I dunno Ray, I think the money was a burden, always worrying, having people constantly bothering you etc.

She may have regrets but she has been on the other side and her experience with loads of cash and nothing but free time to spend was not fulfilling.

Just because you may feel differently doesn't mean what she's saying is not true for her.

I have a cousin that is loaded, multi millionaire - owns a steel company, his kids were spoiled, very spoiled, they had a bedroom that was used just for storing the kids toys. The kids couldn't appreciate anything because they got whatever they wanted.

Interestingly enough, my cousins oldest son wants nothing to do with his old mans money these days, he's a university educated kid that has a house, a job and is a musician.
Money doesn't make him happy, he actually resents the fact his father is so rich.

yeah i know what and her mean... but they made it sound like she is actually happier now than when she had 10mil... i gotta call bs...but never know i guess ... wont make a difference really to me when my dad passes, but i can see lack of concern in my sister in laws eyes when she hears my dad is sick sometimes... they have been spending his money in their minds for a few years now...pisses me off ... good for your cousins kid who wants to go at it alone...shows character

I knew a guy in AA in the 90's who did that. Won the lottery and blew it. He was doing fine though, working in a respectable banking job.

He would talk about how he was happier at the time I knew him than when he had the money. I think part of that was simply living clean and sober versus abusing substances addictively - regardless of the money.

But I also think a part of it - and this may also be the case with the woman in this thread - is some people just don't know how to entertain themselves. They need some kind of forced structure to feel useful/fulfilled/whatever. They need a job for 40+ hours a week and and a reason to have it. Then they need a bunch of chores to go home to. Otherwise life feels pointless. I really think a lot of people are like that. Very limited imagination.

Then again, maybe that guy was just lying to himself, repeating a rationalization over and over until he could believe it - for sanity purposes. You see a lot of that behavior in AA (and everywhere else).

Personally, I would be the happiest guy in the world to have a huge sum of money because I have so many interests to pursue, I could easily entertain myself until I die. Jobs have only ever gotten in the way. But some people just don't know what to do with themselves.
