I mean, he ain't wrong.
Damn, props to Shane Gillis for turning down the bag.

Google reported Q2 earnings, youtube made $8.663 billion from ads this last quarter

based on last year's numbers they are surpassing the $35 billion mark in ad sales plus around $15 billion in youtube premium sales, so youtube has surpassed the $50 billion mark in revenue for the year

a little under 50% of that money goes to the youtube partner program, for this year it's going to be around $23 billion dollars going to youtubers

davey get your money black man

for 2025 youtube partners got $30 billion dollars

2023 $15 billion
2024 $23 billion
2025 $30 billion

@Vegas Dave those numbers are incredible, what industry doubled in 2 years time, that is accessible to mostly anyone and requires so little capital investment

2026 is projected to match Honduras gdp at $37 billion 🤯
It's fool's gold though. I'd bet the vast majority of that $$$ is going to corporations and creators pumping tons of money into producing and advertising their vids.

There are of course exceptions of random folks popping off and building something out of nothing, but for every one of those there are the thousands and thousands that don't.

It is amazing though, all of this without even much monetization in shorts 🤯

agree and disagree, you're right most is going to corporate creators like news media, but then I start falling in rabbit holes and I find some poor guy in a little village in the mountains of Guatemala creating videos or some grandma in a mud hut village in the Savannah of Kenya, it wouldn't make a proper salary of someone in the west but for those poor people even a few hundred dollars a month is life changing, I'm happy it exist, the only social media I frequent

and damn it I want a new davesdime video :mudcat:

Oh yeah there is tons of great stuff out there, and you are 100% right, amazing opportunity for folks around the world with such an incredibly low barrier of entry.

And yeah even the ones that don't make money doing it, it can be an amazing creative outlet, chance to build community, make friends, find others with similar interests.

I just meant fool's gold in the sense of "everyone's getting rich", not like the whole platform is. There's tons of problems with it (AI making those worse), but at it's core its still an amazing thing that fosters creativity and gives everyone a voice. Like you its the one I don't quit when taking a break from social media, as it's a different thing for sure.

Middle age is a bitch and sometimes the hits just keep on coming. Male depression (not saying that's what you're dealing with) is real.

Feel better VD, log off and touch grass. Remember there are plenty of people who love and respect you (even if we often disagree)!
Thank you sir, appreciate the kind words.

Yeah nothing on here or online bothers me typically, usually do a pretty good job of blocking it out (though definitely failed a bit on the Pretti stuff, but it happens).

Have dealt with clinical depression since childhood, but mostly get by fine. All things considered have a pretty good life. But yeah, adulting is adulting, shit can indeed pile up in a hurry.
