So I am in Mississippi for our annual Mississippi Masters Tournament and to say Team Florida performed miserably would be an understatement. Getting our asses handed to us for the 2nd straight year in as many events is bad enough but I managed to make it just a he'll of a lot worse.
Day #2 rained us out as we were under way on the afternoon round. The Oaks course is a play out, play in course, meaning there is no turn at the clubhouse. All 7 teams were just about done with the 9th hole when it just started flooding. We sat there under a shelter for about an hour until the rain slacked enough to head back to the clubhouse.
The course is built with extreme elevations and as my partner and I are riding back in we had to go slow through some low areas because the water was decently high for cart paths. Some of the puddles were 12" deep in some places.
We get to the tunnel which in the only way in or out of the course and the water hits a foot and it's not leveling off. I try hitting the break and my shoelace catches on the pedal and before we can stop we are chest deep in the water.
The cart is dead right were it stopped. So we grab our bags and get back out and I remembered my valuables pouch which had cards, cash and my Droid. I managed to find it but the Droid is ruined, the new range finder is ruined and the golf course will have to replace 6 batteries to get that cart working again.
As I am writing this I have already waded back through the tunnel, taken a shower and am sitting in the poker room waiting to get on a table. There are 28 Florida and Mississippi holders still stuck on the other side of that tunnel waiting for a crew to pump the water out.
