Today on the radio in my car, Twitter got mentioned twice. Why?

(1) Someone is retracting a story that they broke through Twitter earlier. They tweeted some news but it was wrong. It would have been an incredibly stupid and unimportant story if it was right - but it was wrong. So now they are unbreaking the stupid unimportant story.

(2) People are offended at something someone tweeted. Offended people on twitter was the story. But then some people are mad at the offended people. There is name-calling, slurs and threats back and forth. The original tweet, if you calmly looked at it, was devoid of anything meaningful but it doesn't matter; people spin it in whatever direction they need to get self-righteous. And then the tweeter of the original tweet backtracks on what he tweeted (even though it was absolutely nothing).

Twitter's biggest problem is Twitter. I can't recall ever hearing anything from it that made me think, okay that makes me want to dig deeper. More than anything, the Twitter effect is people are semi-hysterical cockroaches.

I can't speak to the specifics of anything that you've mentioned because there aren't any real specifics but that doesn't necessarily matter. What you've described does happen on Twitter and often. The 140 character limit per tweet has it's benefits and hindrances. Mainly like you said, some things get interpreted incorrectly, some things which are trivial at best, and other things get tweeted in haste and are retracted. The best part about Twitter is the fact that you can personalize all that so you aren't following things that don't interest you. You've never seen anything on Twitter that made you think? You simply haven't looked hard enough.

Those are just a couple quick examples from @UnusualFactPage but there are a ton of other ones like that, and Muddy I do think you would find other uses for it. For example, as a musician and someone who follows certain artists it's a great way to connect with either their real life persona (if you are interested in that) or their current music/touring/pictures etc.

I can't tell if you are trying to make a case for or against Twitter. Your words are clearly for it, but then you support your case with a list of trivia that someone copied from the internet which, if I was on Twitter and someone started sending me those, I would unsubscribe so fast it would make your head spin.

Really? You just sent me a picture of the inside of a guitar? I'm sorry, this relationship just isn't working out . . .

Oh well. Let's keep a sense of humor about it. It's a matter of taste and sometimes people aren't going to like stuff as much as you. I get it all the time with various movies, music etc.

It certainly is the case. People who are on Facebook all the time or playing games on an iphone astound me too, yet millions do it.

I find Twitter to be useful, so I use it.

I had never seen a picture of the inside of a guitar, and I thought that was interesting.
