I always have (more out of ignorance than anything else,) but Mr. X informed me that there is no need to unless you feel particularly inclined. He suggested I ask the person who brings it if the service charge is actually paid to them. Sounds reasonable. Last night the girl did no set up..just rolled the cart in the room....said "the steak's underneath" lol. I had to pull out two seriously hot plates from the warmer myself and set it up. The bill was probably $40 so %8 on top of that for service charge. I added $6.00 (random number I came up with) on top of that. At the time, I had no idea she was going to just walk out the door with no set up.

Assuming good service, do you tip on top of the added %20 put on by the hotel? I was going to compare it to pizza delivery guy, but there is no real delivery here...down the hall or so and wheeling in the cart. If the %20 goes to her/him, I am not inclined to tip anything additional.

What say you?

If the tip is already included, why would you feel inclined to tip more?

I can tip you a standard $1 for a beer every other time. If the bar is busy and you can get mine faster knowing I will tip you better vs other patrons that are avg, who are you waiting on first? That's why I tip more, for service over and above. I bartended part time for years and may do some during the holidays so I know how the game is played.

FW,

Working in a job where the tip is already included is not my cup of tea personally, but the people taking these jobs know ahead of time the rules of the game.

As far as the coolness factor of bartending, I know I get laid a lot more because of my profession.

Contrary to Durito's viewpoint, bartending is a lucrative job.
