Cape Town Die Antwoord's zef rappers Ninja and Yo-landi Vi$$er have been cast in the lead roles for director Neill Blomkamp's new sci-fi comedy Chappie, reports Die Burger.

According to Ninja, they will be playing themselves in Blomkamp's new movie, which is set to be filmed from September to December this year in Johannesburg with a budget of $50m (R460m).

Plans for Chappie were announced in January 2011 and not much else has been revealed about the plot.

"It's a science-fiction comedy thing, that's as far as I can go with that," Blomkamp told Empire.

Elysium

Yo-landi dropped a hint in Die Antwoord's song Baby's on Fire, released in August 2012, that "Neill Blomkamp's making me a movie star".

Die Antwoord also revealed that they will be releasing their new album, Donker Mag, in February 2014 and that the first single, Cookie Thumper, will be released at the end of May this year.

Die Antwoord is set to embark on their Blonde All Over tour in June and July 2013 which will include performances in France, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland, England, Belgium and Russia.

Blomkamp recently released the first footage and trailer of much-anticipated film Elysium, his first since the release of District 9 in 2009, which is set for release in August.

Elysium, both written and directed by Blomkamp, stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and District 9's breakout South African star Sharlto Copley and was shot with a reported budget of $100m in various locations around Mexico and Canada.
