I'm not sure if I've even had Yellowtail before. Maybe at a wedding or something?

From looking online it's about $11.00 a bottle here.

For that I can get 2 bottles of cleanskins from primo wineries. But next time I'm on a wine mission I'll try it out.

I've been trying to be much smarter about my wine buys these days. There's an auction site here that scoops up surplus cases from vineyards or stock from companies that have gone under. You can get really great wine for $3-6 a bottle when you buy a case. Definitely helped out at Easter.

What is it about people talking about wine that makes me think of them putting out their pinky as they drink with some misguided, pompous air of superiority while they attempt to impress others with their sense of taste like it has never been done before?

"Look at me. My palette is so sensitive!" GTFOH.

In my world, alcohol serves one purpose - to get fucked up. Drink a motherfucking Jack Daniels and shut up, wine snobs.

haha that's very true... many wine snobs but the same can be said for those who are picky about their beer. I don't care if I'm drinking Bud or some microbrew... it all serves the same purpose, yet others go crazy over their $16 import.

I grew up drinking wine, cut with 7Up at dinner since I was like 10 or so, so it's not really a get pissed kind of drink for me. Although that happens if I drink enough. I just can't master drinking anything else with dinner when I'm out. Except if I'm at a sports pub or maybe whiskey when I'm having steak.

Ah, see that's the difference. I rarely eat when I'm drunk. If I don't eat before I'm already gone, there's no hope for me. I either forget to eat or I just can't be assed.

This reminded me of when I was with a few friends out to dinner and one of the girls was going on about how she only drinks some sort of vodka. Like she was some high class vodka connoisseur. But when she went to order it, she asked for it with soda. We - including the server - took the piss out of her about how it all tastes the same once you add a mixer into it so why not just buy the cheap one instead. Or at least just sip on it straight. But she was insistent that you could tell the difference. I couldn't :dunno:

I can tell the difference actually. I used to drink Belvedere and tonic nearly every night. I can definitely tell the difference between rail vodka, Grey Goose, Ketel One, and Belvedere. I suppose you develop a palette for it just like wine.

I almost had a bet with Ganch for $5k about that very thing. For whatever reason, we never saw it through though. RickySteve and him tried to calculate the probability that I would succeed. He later told me that he would have felt sorry that he would have put me at such a huge -EV disadvantage. He said I was like a 5000/1 dog. I just kind of glanced at him and let it go, but there is no doubt in my mind that it was free money for me since I've actually taken back drinks to the bar on more than a few occasions because of "potato-y" Belvedere bottles that don't taste right.

That's pretty crazy to me that you can tell the difference. To me that is stranger than distinguishing between wines because you're throwing a mixer in there. I'm quite sure I wouldn't be able to pick out the better one in a taste test. Damn, now I feel slightly awful for laughing at her. Maybe she knew wtf she was talking about after all. Too bad that bet never happened though. Would've loved to hear how it turned out.

LOL. I'm sure most people can't and that's why they thought they had such a huge advantage. It was seriously a free $5k for me though. We were going to do it in Vegas during the Rx bash in 2007, but I was in the process of moving here and couldn't make it in time.
