I received 2 GB of RAM today from crucial.com per Matty Rain's suggestion. I was able to install them with the assistance of their instructions rather easily. Computer performance has been enhanced without a doubt. Using Steve's suggestion of cleaning up the "junk" on my computer, removing some of the processes from the startup menu and then installing the new RAM I think my computer should be adequate for the next 1-3 years unless I spill a beer on it.

Thank you all for your assistance. :thankyou:

Here is a good guide in case others need to have the same thing done to their computers. OMG, I am even typing faster! Can you tell?

STEP 1

Start w this

STEP 2

STEP 3

Right-click on Computer in either the Start Menu or Windows Explorer, then Properties. Look for Installed memory (RAM).

Your computer seems slow cause modern browsers have become a lot more memory-hungry. Ya need to go on crucial.com and use their scanning tool that will tell you the max amount of memory you can put in there. Then you whip out your credit card and buy that shit.

You can uninstall as much shit as you want but you'll still be super-tight until you bump your RAM up to a 1gb or 2, if that's even possible on a 5yo laptop.

STEP 4

It is recommending 2- 1GB, 200-pin SODIMM. Only $24.00 each. Pretty cheap if its going to speed up things that much. Sounds like a good deal, right Matty?

What is the best laptop in the $800-$1000 range? These are must-haves for me:

17-inch screen
Windows 8 pro
non-gaming

Would like to get 5 years out of it. I figure with Black Friday coming, now would be the time to buy. I've had good luck with Dell in the past, but if there is something better now, thats fine. I don't need a tablet. Thanks.

So I took a bunch of RAW pics on my trip. My comp memory is almost all full now.

There are a bunch of duplicate pics from the past.

Can you guys recommend good program to get rid of dupes??

I've read mixed reviews about Duplicate Annihilator. Don't want to fuck up my 15k worth of pics/files..
