Now I'm confused, Ray says it's cheaper at the airport, RogRog says it's cheaper farther away from an airport....

My experience has always been that it's cheaper farther away from the airport. They kind of have you over a barrel if you are flying into an airport, unless you want to take a cab to another rental place farther out.

i would imagine the competition at the larger international airports might have something to do with it too ... the Avis down the street from me (in the burbs) would have been a bit more than 2.5x more expensive

some airport locations don't even rent to you if you dont have prove of flight, might be a south florida thing though since it has the tourist volume, but otherwise it'd still be cheaper for an off airport one down here, also you can negotiate it down even more with a 30 day commit
