The fuck it was, lol

The land here is under a lease agreement with first nations. There's a reserve right next to us that was also under a 99yr lease that expired sometime in the early 2000s. The Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation declined to renew that lease, which lead to a long court case that ended up with cottages being completely removed from the east shore of the bay we are on. The family cottage is in the armpit of the bay, circled in red below. The green part is the territory of the Neyaashiinigmiing reserve, but the land that is owned by first nations under a treaty signed by our white ancestors extends all the way down to Owen Sound, which is 50kms to the south of us. The treaty gave first nations control of the entire Bruce peninsula in return for the right to settle in Owen Sound and south of it.

However you feel about relations wirh first nations, these people have the receipts. We signed that shit.

When does the lease expires?
Looks like I'm wrong. My mother in law says there's no lease, and ChatGPT agrees. The land is unceded though and is part of the mid-1800s treaty that gave the entire peninsula to first nations. I guess that treaty is considered null and void? 🤷‍♂️
