Its always a bad sign to open a thread with an apology but I feel I need to apologize first because I know some will read what I am asking/saying wrong and take offense.

Do any of you guys ever feel as if you are just too cool for regular forum dwellers? Ill admit I am merely a casual visitor but it always feels as if there is more of a bond here than at any other forum I have ever been too. That bond though is very exclusive. Its almost cliquish to say the least.

There is always those that have met offline and therefore there will always be inside jokes or other commonalities that some arent privy too. Here though its like that with more than just those that have partied together.

So my question is, do you guys simply have a higher connection to one another or is there an actual conspiracy to thwart off unwelcomed visitors from fitting in and ultimately joining? Is there an unofficial hazing process to rule out any undesirables? Or is this just the observations of an over imaginative imagination and paranoid conspirator?

wal66, I've had a confab with the head cheeses, and, you're in.

First rule about Gaymelive, don't talk about Gaymelive.

I've never been on other sports forums so, what the hell do I know? But, I like talking to smart, funny engaging people. They talk to me, I talk back. The people I don't like, I don't talk to and in one very special case offer to fight in person. (That offer is still on the table by the way, in case someone wants to show up in New Orleans.)

So...eh? There you go.

I think maybe what you see as an "unofficial hazing process" is just posters being themselves. If you like it/get it, you probably want to stay. If it's irritating to you, you probably want to leave.

I think that may be the case.

But seriously, a lot of message boards tend to be cliquish to some extent since people here from the start know each other (and what has gone on in the past) more than someone new, that's just how forums work. However, I don't think here the cliquishness detracts from welcoming anyone new - Mrs X joined a month ago and she knows more of the inside jokes than most of the rest of the people. Naturally it takes someone new a bit of time investment to figure out the forum workings but I don't think it's anything too major.

Did you see what I did there?

what are you talking about wally? i think we are very open to strangers, bigcockguy joined a few day ago, everybody welcomed him. he seems cool.

i had never seen kato until GL, he came here, he posted. and now we waste alot time and have fun together.

jello was on sbr, we hardly knew him, invited to meet him and hung out right away.

i don't think any new person ever gets hazed, we fuk around with the vendittos and uteots but you can't blame us for that, its too easy with those guys

Roguester, it wasn't an accusation more of an observation. You have to admit that there is a bond here that is unlike most sports forums out there though. I don't have a problem with Gamelive or anyone here. I talk or don't talk without any hassle but I have noticed the intimate connections of many. As I said maybe I read to much into it but thought I would ask.

RJ, I would but that weekend is an oncall weekend for me. I could get one of the guys to cover me for a day but they pitch a bitch if they have to swap a weekend or cover an entire weekend. Already had to switch a weekend in July for a golf trip. I am gonna try and plan a trip to the next mini Bash though as long as there is plenty of time in advance to schedule around work. I am amping to meet guys here as much as guys over at SBR. There are good people at both and plenty I hope to one day meet in person.

I like everyone at all forums except that Douchebag JJ Gold. He screwed me over this hockey season so he's in my bad books for now. I've met some forum posters and all were decent fellas. Remember, posters online personas/schticks are much more different than how they conduct themselves in real life. At least that was my take when meeting posters at last years SBR bash.

Anyways, Wal, you're good in my books Champ.

Puckoff, I'm sure many say this but it's true in my case. I am the same person online as offline. Yhat may or may not be a good thing but it's all I know. I've attempted to create a shtick but always failed.

True story.

My first ever experience on a chatroom I got to chatting up this woman and after a while as it always does it gets around to what do you look like. Well I figured what the hell, she'll never know the difference so I can be anyone I wanna be, right? So I proceed to describe the perfect 6'6" tanned and toned washboard abs, physical specimen. So I go home and all night it is bothering me that I just lied to this person. The next day I went back to that room and waited for her to come online and proceeded to tell her the only truth in what I described was the tan part. We bacame good friends though. I even took her to North Carolina once, kidnapped her daughter and paid all her legal fees. That's another true story for another time though.

Wal, I think it's more that the majority of people here just want to shoot the breeze and chit chat, which leaves people like us feeling a little left out. I've always enjoyed reading your posts, and it's because you always have something meaningful to transmit through your writing. I'd like to think that I aspire to the same goal. It's not that this place is cliquish, I think it just appeals to a different style of poster.

I can definitely validate your observations, you're not the first person to make them.

Oh my god. I can't believe that RogueScholar just called me fat. (insert happy, smiley, winky panda or something)
