Anyone that plays a sport or gambles has had at least one and probably several bad beats/defeats along the way.

As for gambling I don’t really consider any of them actual bad beats because like everyone says you are basically flipping a coin and regardless of how likely it appears HEADS is due Tails still has just as likely a probability.

Poker on the other hand is loaded with bad beats. They run the gauntlet from initially specking and getting lucky only to have the outcome go horribly wrong for you but essentially right for the start of the hand to getting to the river and having the odds so overwhelmingly in you favor yet fate reveal it’s ugly side and that 1-outer coming into view. Sure there is variance but some of us just simply run bad even at something we are pretty good at.

Golf though, golf is a game where more often than not if failure comes the blame lies solely on your own shoulders. I’ve failed myself plenty of times on the course but the one that sticks out the most was a couple years ago in one of the Amateur Tour events. I made the turn leading my flight by 6 shots over the nearest competitor, I managed to make a great save on the 10th hole to save par and things looked great. Then a very simple par-3 11th hole happened. I pulled my tee-shot left and the ball came to rest in some pampas grass. I thought about taking an unplayable lie relief but then my ego took over. I decided it would be a death nail if these guys witnessed me pull this shot off and make another incredible save. The ball wasn’t just in the grass it was suspended mid-way. I took my swing and swung under the ball which only managed to get the ball in even a worse position. I hacked again and again the ball remained stuck. Realizing what an idiot I was being I finally took the relief I should have taken in the first place. I took my drop and attempted to flop the ball up onto the green but only managed to skull it over everything and out of bounds. I take my drop try the same shot again and the ball lands on the green. I make my putt and leave the 11th hole carding a 9. I never recovered from that hole and not only did I not win I finished dead last.

Arch, I am state certified in mosquito control just like I am in water and wastewater operations. Mosquito Director is just atitle recognized as the lead guy for a district (like an entire county), private organization (like a park i.e. Disney) or city.

Technically my title for the city is whatever I want to call it since I am the only person here with a license. All I do is train personnel and keep records for state inspections. The guys that I train to spray aren't required to have a license and with my license I can have up to 10 persons work but I only have 2.
