Here's what I saw this week

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 - I have loved this franchise and the first 5 movies were all 7's and 8's for me. However this episode was a big disappointment. Dull and draggy, lacking in action and magic. No doubt I will still watch the final installment at some point but this was excessively mopey and an actual thumbs down. 4.6 out of 10.

The Hi-Lo Country (1998) - This is a Stephen Frears film and I generally like him so when I noticed it on TV, I figured I would finally check it out. I found it to be the exception to the Stephen Frears rule. i.e. - thumbs down. Very, very contrived. It just didn't work for me. 4.1 out of 10.

The Borgias (Season 1) - This wrapped up this week. It's hard to evaluate in a way. It was kind of fun in a splashy and trashy way. I kept watching and, though I won't be proud of it, I will probably watch Season 2 if there is one. But so much of the action didn't make sense and I would be thinking, no way that really happened. That's just contrived TV nonsense. But I am not an actual historical scholar on the subject so I don't know for sure. I give it a 5.1 out of 10.

Bob's Burgers (Season 1) - This also wrapped up this week. I am predisposed to liking animated shows and I kept trying this. I probably watched 6 or 7 episodes of the first season. But I kept being disappointed. It tried very hard but it is just not that funny nor interesting. 4.7 out of 10.

It's been the Game of Thrones for me every week!

Game of Thrones is lowest-common-denominator fantasy garbage. Characters are flat, dialogue is flat, there is no point to it outside of retarded soap-operaish dynamics.

Why the fok anyone would to watch that middling bullshit is beyond me.

Matty, very ironic timing! Just got done watching a movie and was going to post something bout it and saw your post!

Midnight in Paris! Start to finish and both MrsM and I said, WTF! 7.8 out 10 at IMGD! You have to be kidding me! Common!

He doesn't get it either but he's laughing all the way to the bank!

Yeah, I tried to watch Midnight in Paris, and a bunch of other W. Allen movies these past 10 years, and I almost always end up turning them off.

Woody Allen makes movies like some people do crossword puzzles. He's bored and doesn't know what else to do with his time.* He just happens to hit a lucky homerun every now and then - for me the last one was Sweet & Lowdown.

*IMO, Wally.

After giving it a third shot I'm officially done with Game of Thrones. The deal-breaker was that fictitious language spoken by that other race that starts with the letter D, whatever their full name is.

Millions of years of evolution. Hundreds and hundreds of different languages. Yet in anglo fantasy, The Other invariably speaks an artificial language while the good guys speak Modern English regardless of the era. This is so fucking retarded.

Game of Thrones is medieval porn for the simple-minded comic book crowd. Fok these foks.
