Beers that are hoppy are not necessarily thick Blitty. And from SoCal you should know better. Most of the countries best hop beers come from San Diego. Some great examples are Ballast Point Sculpin IPA or Stone IPA. Both great choices that are session beers. Citrusy hops are the way to go. Yeah they are a bit on the boozy side but as long as you aren't planning on drinking 30 beers you'll be okay.
