Pogo is stinky..This just started today. I can't really tell where the smell is coming from, but does not appear to be his doggie butt. It is really bad. Kind of smells like wet dog and vomit combo. He is diabetic and has been sick (runny poo) all week so I gave him only rice for dinner last night and this morning. He seems very lethargic today.

Could it be the dietary change...it hasn't even been 24 hours? Something with the diabetes? I read that dogs smelling can be indicative of health issues. I don't really want to take him to the vet if this is something dietary that will go back to normal when I get him back on regular food. Anyone have any experience with this? Strangest thing

Wth...I think it actually could be. I can't get him up to really check the other one , but the one I got a whiff of....it seemed like it may have been it but I'm not completely sure. If it were his ears, what would that mean?

Ear infection. Not dietary. I would have him checked.

I vividly remember that smell.

Fok. No idea how he would get one, but I will have him checked. If I wake up and he is not stinky tomorrow you think I'm ok to let it go? I just can't help thinking this has to be somehow related to the rice. ??? I am giving him regular food again starting tonight.

Thanks for your reply. I never would have thought of the ears..

He's a cockapoo. I am pretty sure it is, but then I second guess. Would it be both ears? Due to our "confinement," he doesn't go anywhere much really, and it came on so suddenly after the food change. Maybe I'll call the vet and they will give me answer without me having to take him in.

Yeah it is. I have a Lhasa also, but he is in Denver. You don't hear many dogs named Pogo. I thought I was being super original when I named him 10 years ago. Back before he got fat he would jump/spring and it reminded me of a pogostick.. For a minute he was named "Mr. Piddles" cuz he kept peeing in the house, but Pogo/Pogodog won out in the end.

Vets are manipulative assholes.
Pogo was lethargic and very thirsty aobut 8 mos ago. I took him in and he was diagnosed with diabetes. I was told that they had to "regulate" his insulin so I would have to bring him in every week to have his glucose checked until they got the right number. PITA given my situation but I made it work but it got old fast. First 8 mg, then 9, then 11, oops too hig now, try 10...fuck. I just quit going. I can get the insulin otc and he seems to do well on 10 mg. Hell, I am not even convinced that he had diabetes in the first place. He is little fatty though. Part of the reason I don't want to take him in is I don't want to answer questions about why I never went back for more blood testing.
