Right now, the only teams that need to be put out of its misery are:
- Phoenix Coyotes
- Florida Panthers
- Columbus Blue Jackets
- New York Islanders (unless they get a new arena, owner and legit GM)

- Buffalo Sabres - what? the Sabres are the team southern Ontario Leafs fans go see when they can't afford to see a game in Toronto.

- Minnesota Wild - no, Minnesota should never have lost the Stars.

Basically Canadian hockey fans support the Sabres. If Buffalo were 2-3 hours away they wouldn't even exist in the NHL.

Minnesota is a HUGE hockey state. Have to keep them, but get rid of their uniforms
 
I don't think too many teams is a problem. There is plenty of talent out there. How about a world league? That would be sweet. Teams could play majority of their games on their continent, then take a 3 week trip across the ocean for "interleague" play. And at end of season a true World Series. :up:

All the best players in the world already play in the league so it can truly be called a world championship.

Outside of the US and Canada, there are probably only a handful of countries where it would do well.

How popular do you think hockey is in Italy, Greece, or the UK? Not any more popular than in Phoenix would be my guess.

You're probably only looking at a few Eastern European countries and the Scandinavian countries. Then, you have the issue of wrestling the ownership away from the current owners or forcing them to move.

How many in the KHL could play in the NHL, 10%?
 
nah, many great teams/players in Europe.

yes there are 6 premier hockey nations if you count Czech and Slovakia as 1 only and another 20 second tier teams.

But even if it's just between NA and Russia it would be great already. Perhaps they can start with limited interaction but there needs to be some.
From my standpoint there is just no interest in who wins between Anaheim and New York. Alot more fun if these teams are fighting for the right to represent NA in a world series against top European team. :up:
