In short: spam.

Casper the web is a dirty place. Most people have no idea how much spam is floating out there. About half of these are from before I implemented anti bot software. Anti bot stats for last week shows me 1193 blocks.

A good amount of the rest are also spam but humans. For example I can hire a bunch of Indians to go spamming around for me for 1 cent a registration with Mechanical Turk https://www.mturk.com Real cheap shit and easy.

With Google Panda though things started turning. Spammers are getting heavily penalize so much that now they are going around begging sites to remove old spam links, pretty funny shit. So everybody is seeing less spam. Last week Panda 4 came out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Panda

I calculate about 2-3k are true legit sign ups.
